Effects of exercise on different antioxidant enzymes and related indicators: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

open access: yesScientific Reports
Numerous studies on the effects of exercise on antioxidant enzymes have generally concluded that regular exercise positively impacts antioxidant enzyme activity.

Molecular biomarkers and toxic consequences of impact by organic pollution in aquatic organisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Organic contaminants are readily bioaccumulated by aquatic organisms. Exposure to and toxic effects of contaminants can be measured in terms of the biochemical responses of the organisms (i.e. molecular biomarkers).

Adaptive response to oxidative stress in the filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger B1-D [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In the present study, we used a recombinant filamentous fungus strain, Aspergillus niger B1-D, as a model system, and investigated the antioxidant defences in this organism.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Salt stress: antioxidant activity as a physiological adaptation of onion cultivars

open access: yesActa Botânica Brasílica, 2013
The germination and development of several plant species can be limited when those plants are grown in soils with high salinity, which reduces seedling viability and vigor, as well as activating the antioxidant defense system.

Effect of arsenic-phosphorus interaction on arsenic-induced oxidative stress in chickpea plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Arsenic-induced oxidative stress in chickpea was investigated under glasshouse conditions in response to application of arsenic and phosphorus. Three levels of arsenic (0, 30 and 60 mg kg−1) and four levels of P (50, 100, 200, and 400 mg kg−1) were ...

ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES ACTIVITY IN EXPERIMENTAL ISCHEMIA-REPERFUSION INJURY

open access: yesInternational Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, 2019
Background. Blood loss during civil and military limb trauma is the most common cause of preventable death. Complications due to the use of a hemostatic tourniquet are widely investigated nowadays. Therefore, the standards of the past have to be improved. Objective.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Reduced antioxidant enzyme activity in brains of mice transgenic for human presenilin-1 with single or multiple mutations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Alzheimer's disease-related mutations in the presenilin-1 gene (PS1) are leading to an elevated production of neurotoxic beta-amyloid 1-42 and may additionally enhance oxidative stress.
