Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Relationship of antioxidant enzyme activities with myelomeningocele [PDF]

open access: yesTurkish Neurosurgery, 2011
To investigate the role of erythrocyte free radical scavenging enzyme activities (FRSE), carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) in infants with myelomeningocele (MM).We compared antioxidant enzyme activities and MDA level in 40 individuals (10 infants with MM, 10 healthy infants; and mothers of these two groups) with age-matched ...

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.

Mechanistic insights into the impact of Maillard reaction products on endogenous antioxidant systems in fish muscle

open access: yesFuture Foods
The Maillard reaction products (MRPs) inhibit fish lipid oxidation; however, whether they act with the endogenous antioxidants in fish is unclear.

Antioxidant stress response to fluctuations of dissolved oxygen and temperature in a semi-intensive aquaculture shrimp farm during high summer temperature

open access: yesInvertebrate Survival Journal, 2023
The enhancement of the antioxidant system in response to oxidative stress caused by environmental conditions has been amply reported in several animals.

Glutathione s-transferase omega in the lung and sputum supernatants of COPD patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: The major contribution to oxidant related lung damage in COPD is from the oxidant/antioxidant imbalance and possibly impaired antioxidant defence. Glutathione (GSH) is one of the most important antioxidants in human lung and lung secretions,

Marked Long‐Term Improvement in Lung Function in Melanoma Differentiation–Associated Protein 5 Antibody–Positive Dermatomyositis Patients: Experience of a Single‐Center Longitudinal Cohort in North America

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective of this study was to describe the longitudinal disease course and pulmonary outcomes of North American patients with melanoma differentiation–associated protein 5 (MDA5) antibody–associated dermatomyositis (DM). Methods Thirty patients with MDA5 antibody–associated DM were identified in a single‐center longitudinal cohort of 352

Long term effect of curcumin in restoration of tumour suppressor p53 and phase-II antioxidant enzymes via activation of Nrf2 signalling and modulation of inflammation in prevention of cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Inhibition of carcinogenesis may be a consequence of attenuation of oxidative stress via activation of antioxidant defence system, restoration and stabilization of tumour suppressor proteins along with modulation of inflammatory mediators.

[Antioxidant enzymes in acute cerebral infarction].

open access: yesNeurologia (Barcelona, Spain), 2004
Oxidative modification of DNA, protein and lipids by reactive oxygen peroxides plays an important role in acute cerebral infarction. The biological antioxidant defence system against oxidative stress is an integrated array of enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathion peroxidase (GPx). The purpose of this work was: 1.

Anti-oxidants in Parkinson's disease therapy: a critical point of view [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a degenerative neurological syndrome, which is characterized by the preferential death of dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons in the SubstantiaNigra.
