Viromes of one year old infants reveal the impact of birth mode on microbiome diversity [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2018
Establishing a diverse gut microbiota after birth is being increasingly recognised as important for preventing illnesses later in life. It is well established that bacterial diversity rapidly increases post-partum; however, few studies have examined the ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Comparison of 2 different mouse models of colorectal cancer and their application

open access: yes陆军军医大学学报
Objective To establish and compare the characteristics of mouse models of colorectal cancer (CRC) induced by inflammation and gene mutation. Methods Inflammation-induced colorectal cancer mouse model was established using azoxymethane (AOM) combined with

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Tumor Immunology meets…Immunology: Modified cancer cells as professional APC for priming naïve tumor-specific CD4+ T cells

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2017
Although recent therapeutic approaches have revitalized the enthusiasm of the immunological way to combat cancer, still the comprehension of immunity against tumors is largely incomplete.

Precocious activation of APC/C-Cdh1 at pre-anaphase causes genome instability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Faithful chromosome segregation and thereby accurate gene transmission are crucial for all organisms. Until proper attachment of the mitotic spindle to the kinetochore is established, the ubiquitin ligase (E3) Cdc20-activated APC/C (anaphase promoting ...

Apc mutation induces resistance of colonic cells to lipoperoxide-triggered apoptosis induced by faecal water from haem-fed rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Recent epidemiological studies suggest that high meat intake is associated with promotion of colon cancer linked to haem-iron intake. We previously reported that dietary haem, in the form of either haemoglobin or meat, promotes precancerous lesions in ...

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Interpersonal variability of the human gut virome confounds disease signal detection in IBD

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2023
A longitudinal analysis of unamplified fecal virome of healthy controls and IBD patients reveals interpersonal variability is a factor that limits our ability to identify associations between the virome composition and IBD.
