The developmental history of study on neuromyelitis optica

In 19th century, neuromyelitis optica (NMO) indicated optic neuritis and myelitis with simultaneous onset of both sides. Later studies proposed that the onset of right or left side optic neuritis could be separated by weeks, months even years.

CO2‐responsive regulation of membrane trafficking influences the density of the potassium ion (K+) channel KAT1 at the plasma membrane. CO2‐sensitive traffic, dependent on trafficking by the SNARE SYP121, impacts stomatal gas exchange and plant growth.

[Neuromyelitis optica with high aquaporin-4 expression and positive serum aquaporin-4 autoantibodies].

Disease-specific aquaporin-4 antibodies (NMO-IgG) are the main effector of lesions in neuromyelitis optica (NMO) patients. Brain MRI lesions are detected in 60% of them, with 8% (almost infants) at sites of high aquaporin-4 expression. Patient 1: A fifty-year-old male with loss of vision in the right eye.
