ZNRD2 Mediated Nucleoprotein Aggregation Impairs Respiratory Syncytial Virus Replication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 12, 27 February 2026.
During RSV infection, nucleoprotein (N) forms RNA‐bound oligomers. The host protein ZNRD2 binds to these oligomers, promoting their transition into insoluble aggregates. These aggregates simultaneously sequester functional N to restrict viral production and disrupt chaperonin assembly quality control by interfering with ZNRD2's role as an adaptor ...

Highly Effective xMAP Multiplex Assay for the Detection and Identification of Hemorrhagic Fever Agents, Including Ebola Virus

open access: yesПроблемы особо опасных инфекций, 2015
Developed has been the oligonucleotide liquid biochip based on xMAP technology, designed for the laboratory detection of particularly dangerous viral pathogens such as Ebola and Marburg filoviruses, and Machupo , Junin, and Lassa arenaviruses.

Spatiotemporally restricted arenavirus replication induces immune surveillance and type I interferon-dependent tumour regression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Immune-mediated effector molecules can limit cancer growth, but lack of sustained immune activation in the tumour microenvironment restricts antitumour immunity.

Comparison of the Innate Immune Responses to Pathogenic and Nonpathogenic Clade B New World Arenaviruses

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2019
New World (NW) arenaviruses are a diverse family of emerging zoonotic viruses that merit significant attention as important public health problems. The close genetic relationship of nonpathogenic NW arenaviruses with their highly pathogenic cousins ...

Land use gradients drive spatial variation in Lassa fever host communities in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 2, Page 296-312, February 2026.
As West Africa urbanises, the risk of Lassa fever may paradoxically decrease. We found the invasive house mouse, a dominant urban species, outcompetes and displaces the primary Lassa virus host. Considering these species interactions is critical for accurately predicting future zoonotic disease patterns.

Guinea Pig Transferrin Receptor 1 Mediates Cellular Entry of Junín Virus and Other Pathogenic New World Arenaviruses

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2019
JUNV is one of five known NWAs that cause viral hemorrhagic fever in humans. Countermeasures against JUNV infection are limited to immunization with the Candid#1 vaccine and immune plasma, which are available only in Argentina.

Discovery of a Baloxavir‐Inspired Endonuclease Inhibitor That Prevents Herpes Simplex Virus 1 Replication in Cell Culture and In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 42, November 13, 2025.
Current herpesvirus treatments targeting the viral DNA polymerase are limited by toxicities and drug resistance. Novel compounds inhibiting the nuclease activity of the herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV‐1) terminase complex, required for viral genome packaging, have been identified.

Filovirus receptor NPC1 contributes to species-specific patterns of ebolavirus susceptibility in bats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Biological factors that influence the host range and spillover of Ebola virus (EBOV) and other filoviruses remain enigmatic. While filoviruses infect diverse mammalian cell lines, we report that cells from African straw-colored fruit bats (Eidolon helvum)

A Vaccine Platform against Arenaviruses Based on a Recombinant Hyperattenuated Mopeia Virus Expressing Heterologous Glycoproteins

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2018
Several Old World and New World arenaviruses are responsible for severe endemic and epidemic hemorrhagic fevers, whereas other members of the Arenaviridae family are nonpathogenic.
