Myocyte-mediated Arginase Expression Controls Hyperargininemia but not Hyperammonemia in Arginase-deficient Mice [PDF]
Human arginase deficiency is characterized by hyperargininemia and infrequent episodes of hyperammonemia that cause neurological impairment and growth retardation. We previously developed a neonatal mouse adeno-associated viral vector (AAV) rh10-mediated therapeutic approach with arginase expressed by a chicken β-actin promoter that controlled plasma ...

Human Salivary Arginase and Its Deficiency in Argininaemia [PDF]
Arginase from normal human mixed saliva was characterized. The enzyme was completely activated after a preincubation of 20 min at 55 degrees C and a Mn2+ final concentration of 5 mmol/l. The pH optimum was 9.6-9.8, and the Km for L-arginine was 4.2 +/- 0.7 mmol/l.

Targeting Arginine in COVID-19-Induced Immunopathology and Vasculopathy
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) represents a major public health crisis that has caused the death of nearly six million people worldwide. Emerging data have identified a deficiency of circulating arginine in patients with COVID-19. Arginine is a semi-

Arginase-2 mediates diabetic renal injury [PDF]
OBJECTIVE—To determine 1) whether renal arginase activity or expression is increased in diabetes and 2) whether arginase plays a role in development of diabetic nephropathy (DN). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS—The impact of argi-nase activity and expression

This study shows crosstalk among tumor cells, fibroblasts, and macrophages alters the physical forces inside 3D tumor spheroids. Incorporating deformable microparticles in 3D tumor spheroids, the researchers mapped mechanical stresses spatially and with respect to tumor growth (temporally).

CCL22‐releasing PLGA microparticles (MP) suspended in topically applied hydrogels (HEART) establish a sustained chemokine gradient at the injured myocardium. HEART recruits CCR4+ regulatory T cells, reduces infarct size and graft fibrosis, and improves cardiac function.

L-ornithine derived polyamines in cystic fibrosis airways. [PDF]
Increased arginase activity contributes to airway nitric oxide (NO) deficiency in cystic fibrosis (CF). Whether down-stream products of arginase activity contribute to CF lung disease is currently unknown.

Atom‐Efficient Cerium‐Based Molecular Cages as Biocompatible Reactive Oxygen Scavengers
Discrete mixed‐valent cerium molecular cages organize accessible redox centers within confined coordination environments and scavenge superoxide, hydrogen peroxide, and hydroxyl radicals. Encapsulation of the lead cage in an ROS‐responsive DTP nanoplatform enables lesion‐associated delivery, attenuates macrophage oxidative stress and inflammation, and ...

Chemical Bond‐Orchestrated Energy Depletion to Augment Lung Cancer Chemo‐Immunotherapy
This study grafted dichloroacetic acid (DCA) into perylenediimide (PDI) skeleton via ionic or covalent bond to create novel metabolic agent PDIC‐AC and PDIC‐NAC, explicitly elaborated the underlying energy metabolism and therapeutic mechanism, and developed a promising strategy for energy metabolism‐targeting chemo‐immunotherapy by chemical bond ...

L-arginine deprivation impairs Leishmania major-specific T-cell responses. [PDF]
The amino acid L-arginine plays a crucial role in the regulation of immune responses. We have recently shown that uncontrolled replication of Leishmania parasites at the site of pathology correlates with high levels of arginase activity in nonhealing ...
