Effect of astaxanthin on cutaneous wound healing

open access: yesClinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, 2017
Wound healing consists of a complex series of convoluted processes which involve renewal of the skin after injury. ROS are involved in all phases of wound healing. A balance between oxidative and antioxidative forces is necessary for a favorable healing outcome. Astaxanthin, a member of the xanthophyll group, is considered a powerful antioxidant.

The Effect of Color on Consumer WTP for Farmed Salmon [PDF]

open access: yes
Atlantic salmon is recognized for its pink-red color. The color is due to deposition of color pigments in the muscles. Wild salmon absorb the pink-red color pigment astaxanthin from the crustaceans they eat. To impart the pink-red color in farmed salmon,

Emerging Links Between Ferroptosis and Neurodegeneration: Implications for Disease Mechanisms and Nutraceutical Interventions

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 6, June 2025.
Ferroptosis, a controlled cell death, is driven by iron and characterized by reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation. The impact of lipid peroxides, GSH/GPX4, and iron metabolism–targeting small molecule inhibitors is discussed. Nucleic acids, proteins, and phytochemicals are implicated as inhibitors of ferroptosis.
