Isolation and characterization of astaxanthin-hyperproducing mutants of Haematococcus pluvialis (Chlorophyceae) produced by dielectric barrier discharge plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Haematococcus pluvialis has potential commercial application for its ability to accumulate astaxanthin under stress conditions. To improve astaxanthin productivity, nonthermal plasma can be used to produce mutant algal strains with enhanced production of

The Role of Oxidative Stress in Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Oxidative stress is involved in multiple chemical reactions that take place in different intracellular organelles: mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum, peroxisomes, autophagy, and aging, and can be influenced by exogenous factors: nutrition, physical activity, psychological status, environmental conditions, microbiome, and drugs.

Elevation shapes alpine snow algal blooms and their influence on albedo reduction

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Graphical summary of elevational trends in Sanguina‐dominated snow algal blooms. Increasing elevation was associated with larger cells, lower Chla content per cell, higher astaxanthin ratios, lower snow water content, and reduced cell‐normalized albedo, whereas algal cell density showed no consistent elevational trend.

Effects of Dietary Vitamin A Concentration and Stress on Astaxanthin Utilization in Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition
Diets with 30 and 60 ppm astaxanthin in combination with vitamin A (VA) concentrations of 6500, 35,000, and 100,000 IU/kg were fed to Atlantic salmon post smolts in seawater for 17 weeks.
