The ATP binding cassette transporter A1 gene : expression and role in hypoalphalipoproteinemia

The present study was undertaken primarily to determine the prevalence of ABCA1 gene defects in a selected population with a HDL-C < 5 th percentile. The results showed that 30% of the selected patients had a lipid efflux defect and 16% (10/64) of those patients had a mutation in the ABCA1 gene.
