Analyses of ecdysteroid transporters in the fat body of Tribolium castaneum
We analysed two ABCG‐transporters and one organic anion transporting polypeptide (OATP) in Tribolium castaneum. Mutual RNAi effects observed for the tested ABCG and OATP genes indicate interdependent gene regulation. We provide RNAi and mass‐spectrometric data suggesting that these proteins are involved in ecdysteroid transport in the fat body ...

Effect of graded Nrf2 activation on phase-I and -II drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters in mouse liver. [PDF]
Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a transcription factor that induces a battery of cytoprotective genes in response to oxidative/electrophilic stress. Kelch-like ECH associating protein 1 (Keap1) sequesters Nrf2 in the cytosol.

Messenger RNA levels of genes involved in dysregulation of postprandial lipoproteins in type 2 diabetes: the role of Niemann–Pick C1-like 1, ATP-binding cassette, transporters G5 and G8, and of microsomal triglyceride transfer protein [PDF]
The aim of the present study was to examine the relationship between chylomicron composition and expression of genes that regulate chylomicron production in the intestine. We examined expression of the following: (1) Niemann-Pick C1-like 1 (NPC1L1), which regulates cholesterol absorption; (2) ATP-binding cassette transporters G5 and G8 (ABCG5, ABCG8 ...

A detailed Hapmap of the Sitosterolemia locus spanning 69 kb; differences between Caucasians and African-Americans [PDF]
Background Sitosterolemia is an autosomal recessive disorder that maps to the sitosterolemia locus, STSL, on human chromosome 2p21. Two genes, ABCG5 and ABCG8, comprise the STSL and mutations in either cause sitosterolemia. ABCG5 and ABCG8 are thought to

Genetic inactivation of NPC1L1 protects against sitosterolemia in mice lacking ABCG5/ABCG8
Mice lacking Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 (NPC1L1) (NPC1L1−/−mice) exhibit a defect in intestinal absorption of cholesterol and phytosterols. However, wild-type (WT) mice do not efficiently absorb and accumulate phytosterols either.

Purpose: Bile acids (BAs) have been shown to contribute to glucose and energy homeostasis. We have recently reported that miglitol, an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, increases fecal BA excretion and ameliorate insulin resistance and obesity in mice.

The effect of silymarin on expression of selected ABC transporters in the rat
Silymarin (standardized extract from the seeds of the Silybum marianum) has been used in the supportive therapy of liver diseases and its cytoprotective activity is believed to be based on antioxidant properties.

ABCG5 and ABCG8 require MDR2 for secretion of cholesterol into bile
The major pathway for the removal of cholesterol from the body is via secretion into the bile. Three members of the ATP binding cassette (ABC) family, ABCG5 (G5), ABCG8 (G8), and ABCB4 (MDR2), are required for the efficient biliary export of sterols ...

Dietary soy protein isolate (SPI) and its undigested high molecular fraction (HMF) exhaustively digested with proteases, compared with casein (CAS), significantly reduced serum and liver cholesterol concentration in rats. Biliary excretion of cholesterol was significantly higher in rats fed SPI and HMF than in those fed CAS.
