Absolute Configuration of Fusarone, a New Azaphilone from the Endophytic Fungus Fusarium sp. Isolated from Melia azedarach, and of Related Azaphilones

open access: yesChirality, 2012
ABSTRACTA new azaphilone derivative, named fusarone (1), has been isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble extract of the fermentation broth of an endophytic fungus, Fusarium sp. LN‐12, isolated from the leaves of Melia azedarach Linn. The structure of the new compound was established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including 1D‐NMR ...

Structure-specific Inhibition of Cholesteryl Ester Transfer Protein by Azaphilones.

open access: yesThe Journal of Antibiotics, 1999
The effect of thirteen different fungal azaphilones, which have a common 6-iso-chromane-like ring, was tested on cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) activity in vitro. Chaetoviridin B showed the most potent inhibitory activity with an IC50 value of < 6.2 microM, followed by sclerotiorin with an IC50 value of 19.4 microM. Rotiorin, chaetoviridin A

Structures and biological activities of azaphilones produced by Penicillium sp. KCB11A109 from a ginseng field

open access: yes, 2016
Twelve metabolites, including five highly oxygenated azaphilones, geumsanols A-E, along with seven known analogues were isolated from Penicillium sp. KCB11A109, a fungus derived from a ginseng field. Their structures were assigned by spectroscopic means (

Chromatin-mediated upregulation of Monascus pigments in Talaromyces purpurogenus OUCMDZ-019 via disruption of Ash2

open access: yesMycology
Monascus pigments (MPs) are important azaphilone-type polyketide pigments, yet yield control, stability, and safety pose challenges. Using an epigenetic derepression strategy, we constructed an Ash2 deletion mutant in the acidophilic fungus Talaromyces ...

Process for producing an azaphilone in talaromyces atroroseus

open access: yes, 2018
The invention provides a novel class of natural azaphilone pigments, called atrorosins, and methods for their production. The methods for the production of atrorosins include production by fermentation using a fungal species belonging to the genus Talaromyces, preferably thespecies Talaromyces atroroseus.
