A Ruthenium‐(Ph‐BPE) Catalyst for Asymmetric Alkynylation of Fluoral: Enantioselection From 1 of 12 Fluxional Stereogenic‐at‐Ruthenium Complexes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 65, Issue 30, 20 July 2026.
The first enantioselective alkynylations of aqueous fluoral are described. These processes are catalyzed by an iodide‐bound ruthenium‐(Ph‐BPE)‐catalyst; an octahedral metal complex that can exist as 12 diastereomeric‐at‐metal isomers. Calculations reveal that 2 of 12 stereoisomeric complexes account for 99.9% of the Boltzmann population and that ...

Structure–Activity Relationship Analysis and hERG Liability Assessment of Second‐Generation Antibiofilm Compounds Active Against Salmonella

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 13, 14 July 2026.
Typhoid fever, caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi, infects millions of individuals per year. Chronic carriage of typhoid fever is associated with biofilm formation in the gallbladder. Herein, we identify novel antibiofilm agents active against Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium.

The Nitrofuran-Warhead-Equipped Spirocyclic Azetidines Show Excellent Activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis

open access: yesMolecules
A series of 21 new 7′H-spiro[azetidine-3,5′-furo [3,4-d]pyrimidine]s substituted at the pyrimidine ring second position were synthesized. The compounds showed high antibacterial in vitro activity against M. tuberculosis.

On the Planarity of Heterocyclic Bay‐Substituted Perylenediimides: Insight into the Fluorescent Photoinduced Electron Transfer Sensing Framework

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 26, 13 July 2026.
Near‐infrared fluorescent pH indicators based on perylenediimide were constructed in a modular receptor–spacer–fluorophore–spacer–receptor format with heterocyclic amino moieties at the bay positions. Counterintuitively, the dibrominated intermediate with two heavy atoms is more emissive than the heterocyclic compounds.

Recent Developments in Stereoselective Reactions of Sulfoxonium Ylides

open access: yesMolecules
This review probes the recent developments in stereoselective reactions within the area of sulfoxonium ylide chemistry since the early 2000s. An abundance of research has been applied to sulfoxonium ylide chemistry since its emergence in the early 1960s.

Sulfonyl azides in multicomponent and cascade strategies for synthesizing heterocycle and non-heterocyclic scaffolds

open access: yesResults in Chemistry
Sulfonyl azides have emerged as remarkably versatile reagents in contemporary synthetic chemistry, functioning both as azide-transfer agents and as precursors to N-sulfonylketenimines and nitrenes that enable a broad array of bond-forming events.
