ABC transporters and azole susceptibility in laboratory strains of the wheat pathogen Mycosphearella graminicola [PDF]

open access: yes
Laboratory strains of Mycosphaerella graminicola with decreased susceptibilities to the azole antifungal agent cyproconazole showed a multidrug resistance phenotype by exhibiting cross-resistance to an unrelated chemical, cycloheximide or rhodamine 6G ...

Creation and assessment of a clinical predictive calculator and mortality associated with Candida krusei bloodstream infections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background Candida krusei bloodstream infection (CK BSI) is associated with high mortality, but whether this is due to underlying comorbidities in affected patients or the organism itself is unknown.

Visualization of Gaseous Ammonia Using an Ionic Liquid‐Based pH‐Responsive Dye

open access: yesAnalysis &Sensing, EarlyView.
An ionic liquid composed of bromocresol purple ([P66614]2[BCP]) is synthesized via an ion‐exchange reaction. The color of [P66,614]2[BCP] changes from yellow to blue after exposure to gaseous NH3. The color change in the [P66614]2[BCP] thin film serves as a visual indicator of pork and salmon decomposition.

Novel Azole-Modified Porphyrins for Mitochondria-Targeted Photodynamic Therapy

open access: yesMolecules
Photodynamic therapy is a non-invasive treatment strategy for various types of cancer, based on the use of light to activate a photosensitizer which triggers processes leading to cell death.

The Hsp90 co-chaperones Sti1, Aha1, and P23 regulate adaptive responses to antifungal azoles

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
Heat Shock Protein 90 (Hsp90) is essential for tumor progression in humans and drug resistance in fungi. However, the roles of its many co-chaperones in antifungal resistance are unknown. In this study, by susceptibility test of Neurospora crassa mutants

Mitochondrial Complex I Is a Global Regulator of Secondary Metabolism, Virulence and Azole Sensitivity in Fungi. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Recent estimates of the global burden of fungal disease suggest that that their incidence has been drastically underestimated and that mortality may rival that of malaria or tuberculosis.

Challenges in optimizing tacrolimus therapy in patients treated with rifampin: A case series

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Tacrolimus is a cornerstone immunosuppressant in transplantation medicine with a narrow therapeutic window. Drug–drug interactions with strong CYP3A4 and P‐glycoprotein modulators, such as rifampin and azole antifungals, significantly alter tacrolimus exposure and complicate therapy. Two transplant cases illustrates the impact of rifampin on tacrolimus

Molecular Detection of Azole-Resistant Aspergillus fumigatus in Clinical Samples

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Aspergillus diseases are often caused by Aspergillus fumigatus. Azoles are the mainstay of therapy, but the management of aspergillosis is hampered by the emergence of azole resistance.
