Impact of sorbic acid on germinant receptor-dependent and -independent germination pathways in Bacillus cereus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Amino acid- and inosine-induced germination of Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579 spores was reversibly inhibited in the presence of 3 mM undissociated sorbic acid. Exposure to high hydrostatic pressure, Ca-dipicolinic acid (DPA), and bryostatin, an activator of

The cereus matter of Bacillus endophthalmitis

open access: yesExperimental Eye Research, 2020
Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) endophthalmitis is a devastating intraocular infection primarily associated with post-traumatic injuries. The majority of these infections result in substantial vision loss, if not loss of the eye itself, within 12-48 h. Multifactorial mechanisms that lead to the innate intraocular inflammatory response during this disease ...

Colonic Submucosa Targeted Delivery of Probiotic and Rhein for Ulcerative Colitis Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel orally drug‐probiotic co‐delivery system designated as Rh‐YBS for UC treatment, which highlights three innovations: (i) YPs involves colonic submucosa delivery via M cells; (ii) Rh (drug) promotes the colonization and growth of BS (probiotic) in the colon.

Auxin‐Producing Pseudomonas Recruited by Root Flavonoids Increases Rice Rhizosheath Formation through the Bacterial Histidine Kinase Under Soil Drying

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Drought is a major cause of crop losses across agricultural regions. Rhizosheath formation enhances plant resistance to drought. Polyploids may tolerate stress more effectively through increased interactions with bacteria. However, the contributions of tetraploid rice associated microbiota to rhizosheath formation under soil drying remain unclear ...

Genomic Sequencing of Bacillus cereus Sensu Lato Strains Isolated from Meat and Poultry Products in South Africa Enables Inter- and Intranational Surveillance and Source Tracking

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Members of the Bacillus cereus sensu lato species complex, also known as the B. cereus group, vary in their ability to cause illness but are frequently isolated from foods, including meat products; however, food safety surveillance efforts that use whole-

Chemical Composition and Synergistic Antimicrobial Effects of Essential Oils From Four Commonly Used Satureja Species in Combination With Two Conventional Antibiotics

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
The chemical composition and the in vitro synergistic antimicrobial effects of four Satureja essential oils were investigated. Essential oils from Satureja montana and S. hortensis displayed strong antimicrobial effects, whereas S. calamintha and S. alpina exhibited relatively weaker antimicrobial activity.

Comparing nonsynergy gamma models and interaction models to predict growth of emetic Bacillus cereus for combinations of pH and water activity values [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This research aims to test the absence (gamma hypothesis) or occurrence of synergy between two growth-limiting factors, i.e., pH and water activity (aw), using a systematic approach for model selection.
