An assay for the bacterial sweet spot [PDF]

open access: yesBiotechnology Journal, 2013
AbstractGlycosylation is critical for the proper folding and function of many eukaryotic proteins. A lack of native asparagine‐linked glycosylation machinery has hampered production of eukaryotic proteins in Escherichia coli. This commentary by Danielle Tullman‐Ercek discusses the work of Matt Delisa's group on an assay using beta‐lactamase activity as

RESISTANCE TO BACTERIAL SPOT IN CUCURBITA SPECIES [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 1990
No sources of resistance to Xanthomonas campestris pv. cucurbitae (X.c.c.) in the Cucurbita species have been reported. Cultivars, breeding lines, landraces, and PI lines of 5 Cucurbita species were screened for resistance to X.c.c. in 3 greenhouse tests (GH).

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Control of pepper bacterial spot and tomato bacterial speck using bactericides in combination with a plant activator [PDF]

open access: yesPesticidi i Fitomedicina, 2019
The efficacy of a formulated product of tea tree oil (TTO) and a standard copper based bactericide in combinations with acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM) for control of bacterial spot of pepper and bacterial speck of tomato was evaluated under controlled ...

Foliar Application of the Fungicide Pyraclostrobin Reduced Bacterial Spot Disease of Pepper

open access: yesResearch in Plant Disease, 2018
Pyraclostrobin is a broad-spectrum fungicide that inhibits mitochondrial respiration. However, it may also induce systemic resistance effective against bacterial and viral diseases.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Xv4-vrxv4: A New Gene-for-Gene Interaction Identified Between Xanthomonas campestris pv. Vesicatoria Race T3 and the Wild Tomato Relative Lycopersicon pennellii

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2000
Strains of tomato race 3 (T3) of Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria elicit a hypersensitive response (HR) in leaves of Lycopersicon pennellii LA716.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Silicon application and related changes in soil bacterial community dynamics reduced ginseng black spot incidence in Panax ginseng in a short-term study

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2019
Background This study analyzed the effect of silicon (Si) application on the occurrence of ginseng black spot caused by Alternaria panax. We explored the differences in soil physical and chemical factors and microbial community structure following Si ...
