Bcl‐xL interrupts oxidative activation of neutral sphingomyelinase
Recent studies demonstrate a role for intracellular oxidation in the regulation of neutral sphingomyelinase (N‐SMase). Glutathione (GSH) has been shown to regulate N‐SMase in vitro and in cells. However, it has not been established whether the effects of GSH in cells are due to direct action on N‐SMase.

A20 Facilitates Oxaliplatin Sensitivity in Colorectal Cancer Through Monoubiquitylation of IKK‐β
This study demonstrates that the expression of A20, a ubiquitin‐editing enzyme, is positively correlated with oxaliplatin sensitivity in colorectal cancer (CRC). Mechanistically, A20 enhances oxaliplatin sensitivity by inhibiting NF‐κB nuclear translocation through monoubiquitination of IKK‐β.

Platelets are cell fragments lacking nuclei that play a key role in blood clotting. Using an impressive genetic screen involving ENU-mutagenesis of whole mice, Mason et al. (2007) report in this issue their identification of mutations in the antiapoptotic protein Bcl-x(L) that cause accelerated death of platelets leading to platelet deficiency.

This study establishes dual‐aptamer PROTACs targeting SETDB1 using a SETDB1‐specific aptamer conjugated to AS1411.
