Cyanoacetamidobetaine—A Zwitterionic Nitrile Derivative

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
The reaction of sodium dicyanamide with betainium chloride in aqueous solution affords N‐cyano‐2‐(trimethylammonio)acetaminide (cyanoacetamidobetaine). Single crystal X‐ray diffraction reveals a monoclinic structure comprising a trimethylammonium head group connected to a cyanoacetaminide unit via a methylene bridge.

Antioxidant-rich beetroot juice does not adversely affect acute neuromuscular adaptation following eccentric exercise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This study examined the effects of beetroot juice on the repeated bout effect (RBE) to eccentric exercise. Twenty-nine recreationally active males performed two bouts of 100-drop jumps, separated by 14–21 days.

Beetroot (Beta vulgaris L. var. conditiva Alef.) pretreated by freeze-thaw: influence of drying methods on the quality characteristics

open access: yesCyTA - Journal of Food
This study aimed to investigate the impact of microwave drying (MD), microwave vacuum drying (MVD), freeze drying (FD), vacuum drying (VD), hot air drying (HAD), and sun drying (SD) on the quality attributes of freeze-thaw pretreated beetroots.

Exploring the Tribological Properties of 3D Printed Polymer Composites: An Experimental Study

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Tribological pin‐on‐disc testing of FDM‐manufactured pins. Pins made from PLA, TPU, bronze‐filled PLA (BRO), and their combinations were tested against a SAE 1020 steel disc to evaluate friction, wear, and surface morphology. ABSTRACT In recent years, additive manufacturing, especially 3D printing, has been gaining more space in the production of parts

Impact of flavonoid-rich black tea and beetroot juice on postprandial peripheral vascular resistance and glucose homeostasis in obese, insulin-resistant men: a randomized controlled trial. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Insulin-stimulated muscle blood flow facilitates plasma glucose disposal after a meal, a mechanism that is impaired in obese, insulin-resistant volunteers.

Poly(L‐Lactide‐Co‐ε‐Caprolactone)/glass Fiber Composites: Toward Improved Mechanical Properties of Polylactide‐Based Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Enhanced impact strength in PLLA‐based composites via ε‐caprolactone incorporation in the matrix. ABSTRACT Inherent brittleness and limited toughness of polylactide (PLA) restrict its use in high‐performance applications. To overcome these limitations, poly(L‐lactide) (PLLA) is often blended with more ductile thermoplastics or chemically modified ...

Challenges facing the management of pesticide resistance in weeds, diseases and insect pests in European agriculture and the future of effective IPM implementation

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Opinion on pesticide resistance and management in the European Union (EU) and United Kingdom (UK) is presented cognisant of changes in regulation that impact on mode of action availability and cropping system choice. Abstract In recent times, pesticide resistance has been managed reasonably effectively, either proactively or reactively, by monitoring ...

Decomposition rate of organic fertilizers: effect on yield, nitrogen availability and nitrogen stock in the soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The nitrogen of organic fertilizers does not fully mineralize within a season, and hence will partly become available in later years. This effect is taken into account for the first year but generally not in later fertilizer applications.
