AMP-Activated Kinase (AMPK) Activation by AICAR in Human White Adipocytes Derived from Pericardial White Adipose Tissue Stem Cells Induces a Partial Beige-Like Phenotype. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Beige adipocytes are special cells situated in the white adipose tissue. Beige adipocytes, lacking thermogenic cues, morphologically look quite similar to regular white adipocytes, but with a markedly different response to adrenalin.

Leishmaniasis in beige mice [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1982
The courses of two protozoal diseases, cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis, were examined in three groups of C57BL/6J mice. One group of mice was homozygous recessive for the beige gene (bg/bg). Beige mice are the genetic homologue of the human Chédiak-Higashi syndrome and, among other defects, are profoundly deficient in natural killer cell activity.

Dietary Sea Buckthorn Pomace Induces Beige Adipocyte Formation in Inguinal White Adipose Tissue in Lambs

open access: yesAnimals, 2019
The sea buckthorn contains substantial amounts of bioactive compounds. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary sea buckthorn pomace (SBP) on sheep beige adipocyte formation.

Beige Fat Maintenance; Toward a Sustained Metabolic Health

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2020
Understanding the mammalian energy balance can pave the way for future therapeutics that enhance energy expenditure as an anti-obesity and anti-diabetic strategy.

miRNA-32 Drives Brown Fat Thermogenesis and Trans-activates Subcutaneous White Fat Browning in Mice

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Brown adipose tissue (BAT) activation and subcutaneous white fat browning are essential components of the thermogenic response to cold stimulus in mammals. microRNAs have been shown to regulate both processes in cis.

LSD1 in beige adipocytes protects cardiomyocytes against oxygen and glucose deprivation [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2023
Objective(s): Epicardial adipose tissue (EpAT) is known for its role in supporting the cardiomyocytes. Lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1), a typical lysine demethylase, is an essential regulator for the maintenance of beige adipocytes.

Lysyl oxidase inhibition enhances browning of white adipose tissue and adaptive thermogenesis

open access: yesGenes and Diseases, 2022
Accumulating evidence from both animal and human studies suggests that activation of beige fat increases cellular energy expenditure, ultimately reducing adiposity.

TGF-β receptor 1 regulates progenitors that promote browning of white fat

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2018
Objective: Beige/brite adipose tissue displays morphological characteristics and beneficial metabolic traits of brown adipose tissue. Previously, we showed that TGF-β signaling regulates the browning of white adipose tissue. Here, we inquired whether TGF-

ESRRG and PERM1 Govern Mitochondrial Conversion in Brite/Beige Adipocyte Formation

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2020
When exposed to cold temperatures, mice increase their thermogenic capacity by an expansion of brown adipose tissue mass and the formation of brite/beige adipocytes in white adipose tissue depots.
