Sanguinarine synergistically potentiates aminoglycoside‐mediated bacterial killing

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 15, Issue 7, Page 2055-2070, July 2022., 2022
Aminoglycosides primarily interact with the bacterial ribosomes and result in protein misfolding and ROS production. Insertion of abnormal proteins into the cell membrane increases the membrane permeability and leads to enhanced uptake of sanguinarine.

Sanguinarine‐Chelerythrine Fraction of Coptis chinensis Exerts Anti‐inflammatory Activity in Carrageenan Paw Oedema Test in Rats and Reveals Reduced Gastrotoxicity

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Inflammatory diseases are a common therapeutic problem and nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs are not deprived of side effects, of which ulcerogenic activity is one of the most frequent. The aim of the study was to evaluate the anti‐inflammatory activity of the sanguinarine‐chelerythrine (SC) fraction of Coptis chinensis and its influence on the ...

Research Progress on G‐Quadruplexes in Human Telomeres and Human Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase (hTERT) Promoter

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
The upregulation telomerase activity is observed in over 85‐90% of human cancers and provides an attractive target for cancer therapies. The high guanine content in the telomere DNA sequences and the hTERT promoter can form G‐quadruplexes (G4s). Small molecules targeting G4s in telomeres and hTERT promoter could stabilize the G4s and inhibit hTERT ...

Distribution of Therapeutic Efficacy of Ranunculales Plants Used by Ethnic Minorities on the Phylogenetic Tree of Chinese Species

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
The medicinal properties of plants can be evolutionarily predicted by phylogeny‐based methods, which, however, have not been used to explore the regularity of therapeutic effects of Chinese plants utilized by ethnic minorities. This study aims at exploring the distribution law of therapeutic efficacy of Ranunculales plants on the phylogenetic tree of ...

BHLH IRIDOID SYNTHESIS 3 is a member of a bHLH gene cluster regulating terpenoid indole alkaloid biosynthesis in Catharanthus roseus

open access: yesPlant Direct, Volume 5, Issue 1, January 2021., 2021
Abstract Basic helix‐loop‐helix (bHLH) transcription factors (TFs) are key regulators of plant specialized metabolites, including terpenoid indole alkaloids (TIAs) in Catharanthus roseus. Two previously characterized subgroup‐IVa bHLH TFs, BIS1 (bHLH Iridoid Synthesis 1) and BIS2 regulate iridoid biosynthesis in the TIA pathway.

Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides Alkaloidal Extract Improves CCl4‐Induced Hepatocellular Carcinoma‐Like Phenotypes in Rats

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Background. Despite the enrollment of new small molecules such as Sorafenib for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), HCC still remains a significant contributor to cancer‐related mortality and morbidity globally. Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides is long suspected of possessing anticancer bioactive compounds that may hold the prospect of ...
