Regulation Mechanism of Plant Pigments Biosynthesis: Anthocyanins, Carotenoids, and Betalains
Anthocyanins, carotenoids, and betalains are known as the three major pigments in the plant kingdom. Anthocyanins are flavonoids derived from the phenylpropanoid pathway.

ABSTRACT The planthopper Pentastiridius leporinus (Hemiptera: Cixiidae) is the primary vector of two phloem‐restricted prokaryotes, which can cause the disease syndrome de basses richesses (SBR) in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.). Heavy infestations of this insect have contributed to significant yield losses in Central Europe, but little is known about ...

Betalains as Natural Dyes and Applications
Betalains are natural pigments that include betacyanin and betaxanthin, found in plants such as beets and cacti. In the food industry, betalains are used as natural colorants due to their color stability and health benefits, including antioxidant and ...

Anthocyanins and betalains in evolution: Why mutual exclusion remains the best‐supported model
Anthocyanins and betalains are plant pigments produced through different biosynthetic pathways and are generally considered mutually exclusive. We examine claims of their co‐occurrence, arguing that methodological flaws and data misinterpretation have led to unsupported reports, and offer recommendations for more rigorous future research.

First Betalain-Producing Bacteria Break the Exclusive Presence of the Pigments in the Plant Kingdom
The biosynthesis of antioxidant pigments, namely, betalains, was believed to be restricted to Caryophyllales plants. This paper changes this paradigm, and enzyme mining from bacterial hosts promoted the discovery of bacterial cultures producing betalains.

Abstract BACKGROUND The aim of this work was to characterize the polyphenolic profile of encapsulated purple sweet potato peel extract (PSPPE), to assess the effects of its addition (1.5 and 3 g L−1) on the color, texture, microbiological quality, microstructure, and sensory attributes of fresh goat cheese, and to monitor the polyphenolic profile and ...

Abstract Camptothecin (CPT), a plant‐derived monoterpene indole alkaloid first identified in Camptotheca acuminata, is a drug precursor widely used for cancer chemotherapeutics. However, the full set of genes responsible for CPT biosynthesis remains unclear, hindering efforts to elucidate the complete pathway or establish biosynthetic production of CPT

On the Light Requirement for Betalain Biogenesis [PDF]
Anithocyanins and betalain's' represent 2 major classes of red plant pigments which occtur in cell vacuoles. The biogenesis of the wide, spread and weltl known anthocyanins [typical is the red rose pigment, cyanin (I)] requires light in many butt not all plant's which normally produce them (1, 5).
