Anti-HIV-1 Activity of the Integrase Strand Transfer Inhibitor ACC017

open access: yesViruses
HIV-1 integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) are pivotal to antiretroviral therapy. However, the emergence of drug-resistant mutations necessitates the development of new agents. Here, we present ACC017 as a novel INSTI candidate.

Bifidobacterium Pseudolongum‐Derived Acetate Attenuates Acute Pancreatitis Through GPR43‐Mediated Suppression of M1 Macrophage Polarization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The severity of acute pancreatitis (AP) is linked to reduced abundance of Bifidobacterium pseudolongum (B. pseudolongum). Administration of B. pseudolongum or its key metabolite acetate alleviates pancreatic and systemic inflammation by suppressing M1 macrophage polarization.

A Tachyplesin Antimicrobial Peptide from Theraphosidae Spiders with Potent Antifungal Activity Against Cryptococcus neoformans

open access: yesMicroorganisms
The venoms of Theraphosidae spiders have evolved into diverse natural pharmacopeias through selective pressures. Cryptococcus neoformans is a global health threat that frequently causes life-threatening meningitis and fungemia, particularly in ...

Prevention of enteroxigenic Escherichia coli infections in pigs by dairy-based nutrition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Postweaning diarrhea (PWD) is a significant enteric disease causing considerable economic losses for the pig industry. Among several aetiological risk factors, enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is considered to be a major cause.

Localized NF‐κB Inhibition Reduces Lipid Nanoparticle‐Associated Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) activate NF‐κB and provoke inflammation that limits therapeutic delivery. By encapsulating selective NF‐κB inhibitors within LNPs, localized suppression of inflammatory signaling is achieved without compromising mRNA expression.

A Dual‐Responsive Versatile Nanohybrid Orchestrating Tumor Elimination and Tumor‐Associated Osteolysis Restoration via Sequential Release

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The versatile CaO2@CuMOF@HAP nanohybrid demonstrates an outstanding MMP9/pH‐triggered release performance for sequential release of osteogenic growth peptide into deep‐seated tumor‐infiltrated bone destruction areas and dual ions into tumor cells, enabling efficient tumor‐associated osteolysis restoration and tumor elimination for more comprehensive ...

Myeloid‐Derived Grancalcin Promotes Periodontal Inflammation and Pathological Bone Remodeling in Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Grancalcin (GCA), a myeloid‐derived protein, is enriched in gingival tissues of periodontitis patients and mouse models. Through interactions with CD44 and activation of MYH9, GCA promotes NF‐κB signaling and exacerbates periodontal inflammation and bone loss.

Slim and scum: Natural products from land and sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
To a natural-products chemist, the term "natural products" does not refer to all compounds from natural sources, as the name might imply. It is specifically used to refer to compounds known as secondary metabolites, structurally complex molecules, often ...
