A Cationic Supramolecule With Potent Antifungal Activity, Single‐Species Selectivity, and Strong Synergy With Echinocandins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce a new membrane‐active antifungal design, Gua‐SMACS‐16, that exhibits high potency and single‐species selectivity for C. tropicalis while sparing other close species in the Candida genus. Moreover, when combining with caspofungin, a clinical antifungal drug inhibiting 1,3‐β‐glucan synthase, they exhibit ultra‐strong synergy across a panel ...

Beware glowing cadavers: bioluminescence of nematode symbiont Photorhabdus protects nematode-infected host cadavers from nocturnal scavengers

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution
Photorhabdus spp. are the only known terrestrial bioluminescent bacteria. We show that the bioluminescence produced by these bacteria reduces scavenging activity on the insect cadavers they colonize. Photorhabdus spp.

Visualizing changes in brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression using bioluminescence imaging in living mice

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays a fundamental role in expressing various neural functions including memory consolidation. Alterations of BDNF levels in the brain are associated with neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders ...

Genetic Code Expanded T Cell for Controllable Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our GCE‐CAR‐T cells enables tight, dose‐dependent, and function‐preserving control of CAR expression at the translational level through amber codon suppression and genetic incorporation of ncAA. ABSTRACT Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)‐T cell therapy has demonstrated curative potential against hematologic malignancies, but its clinical application ...

Automated quantification of bioluminescence images

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Analysis of bioluminescence images of bacterial distributions in living animals is mostly manual and semiquantitative. Here, the authors present an analysis platform featuring an animal mold, a probabilistic organ atlas, and a mirror gantry to perform ...

Pathogen‐Centric Activation of an Azoreductase‐Responsive Antibody‐Antibiotic Conjugate for the Targeted Eradication of MRSA

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A pathogen‐centric antibody‐antibiotic conjugate (AZO‐AAC) releases antibiotics via bacterial azoreductase, independent of host‐lysosomal function. This mechanism achieves nanomolar eradication of both planktonic and intracellular methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Lighting up Macrophage Reprogramming Assists Immunosuppressive Niche Modulation in Primary Tumors and Tumor‐Draining Lymph Nodes of Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops an intelligent NIR‐II‐responsive nanoplatform to combat immunosuppression in breast cancer. It enables real‐time visualization of macrophage activity via “off‐on” fluorescence while simultaneously reprogramming macrophages through the CSF‐1R and CD47‐SIRPα pathways.

Master Regulator SMC1A, Stabilized by N6‐Methyladenosine Reader IGF2BP1, Promotes HCC Progression Through Facilitating Enhancer–Promoter Interaction of Nestin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
IGF2BP1‐mediated m6A stabilization sustains SMC1A expression, enabling cohesin‐associated chromatin regulation of Nestin in hepatocellular carcinoma. This work reveals an epitranscriptomic‐chromatin‐cytoskeletal regulatory axis linked to malignant phenotypes and identifies SMC1A as a biologically relevant vulnerability in HCC.

Bioluminescence in Aquatic Organisms

open access: yes, 2008
Bioluminescence is a light production phenomena performed by means of chemical reactions or cellular secretion existing in the cells of living organisms or in the cells and organs of the symbiotic organisms which live together with them. In this process,
