Phase Engineering of Nanomaterials (PEN): Evolution, Current Challenges, and Future Opportunities
This review summarizes the synthesis, phase transition, advanced characterization spanning ex situ to in situ and operando techniques, and diverse applications of phase engineering of nanomaterials (PEN). It further outlines key challenges and future opportunities, such as phase stability, architecture control, and artificial intelligence (AI)‐driven ...

OFF bipolar cells in the macaque retina were recently classified into five types: flat midget bipolar (FMB) and diffuse bipolar (DB) 1, 2, 3a, and 3b. We examined all parallel pathways from cone photoreceptors via OFF bipolar cells to parasol and midget ...

Synaptic mechanisms of bipolar cell terminals
Giant synaptic terminals of goldfish bipolar neurons allow direct studies of presynaptic mechanisms underlying neurotransmitter release and its modulation. Calcium influx via L-type calcium channels of the terminal triggers synaptic vesicle exocytosis, which can be monitored in isolated terminals by means of the associated changes in membrane ...

Bioelectrical Interfaces Beyond Excitable Cells: Cancer, Aging, and Gene Expression Modulation
ABSTRACT The investigation of biological conductivity has evolved from its classical foundation based on ionic fluxes underpinning cardiac and neuronal excitability to a multifaceted regulator of cellular physiology. Traditional approaches for probing electrical events in living matter focused largely on action potentials recording.

Topological Point Defects in SmC* Liquid Crystals Under Mechanical Disturbance
Tangetial air jet shear inducess island formation and nucleates topological point defects in uniform SmC films. Island bounded by edge dislocation loops shrink and transform into isolated point defects under continued shear. Mechanical perturbatio provides a controllable route for defect engineering in smectric liquid crystal thin films.

Licht- und elektronenmikroskopische Analyse von Bipolarzelltypen in der Mausretina [PDF]
In the mammalian retina, the light response of the photoreceptors (rods and cones) is processed by an elaborate neuronal network. For many years it has been thought that in the mammalian retina rod and cone signals are relayed by different types of ...

Advances in Halide Perovskites for Photon Radiation Detectors
This work highlights recent progress in perovskite‐based photon radiation detectors, covering organic–inorganic hybrid, inorganic, lead‐free double, and vacancy‐ordered halide perovskites. Their detection performance is compared, material‐specific advantages and challenges are examined, and provides insight into current limitations and future ...

Parametric tests of a 40-Ah bipolar nickel-hydrogen battery [PDF]
A series of tests were performed to characterize battery performance relating to certain operating parameters which include charge current, discharge current, temperature, and pressure. The parameters were varied to confirm battery design concepts and to
