The butterfly unfolded wing in an open form structure of botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT/A) at physiological‐state was confirmed at 2.85 Å resolution by cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM). Structure‐guided protein engineering significantly enhanced the receptor‐binding affinity, therapeutic efficacy, and safety of the engineered toxin variants ...

Human gut Bacteroides capture vitamin B12 via cell surface-exposed lipoproteins. [PDF]
Human gut Bacteroides use surface-exposed lipoproteins to bind and metabolize complex polysaccharides. Although vitamins and other nutrients are also essential for commensal fitness, much less is known about how commensal bacteria compete with each other

Activation of formate hydrogen-lyase via expression of uptake [NiFe]-hydrogenase in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) [PDF]
Background: Several recent studies have reported successful hydrogen (H-2) production achieved via recombinant expression of uptake [NiFe]-hydrogenases from Hydrogenovibrio marinus, Rhodobacter sphaeroides, and Escherichia coli (hydrogenase-1) in E. coli

ABSTRACT Gut microbiota dysbiosis promotes colorectal cancer (CRC) tumorigenesis. A global fecal metagenomic analysis identified Gemella morbillorum as a key contributor to the CRC‐associated microbiota. Fluorescence in situ hybridization revealed that Gemella morbillorum is enriched in CRC tumor tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues.

Investigation of the biosynthesis of exopolysaccharides within the biofilm matrix of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiea : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology and Genetics at Massey University, Manawatu, New Zealand [PDF]
Polysaccharides are highly abundant natural biopolymers, which have biologically significant structural functions in living organisms. Various polysaccharides, with specific physicochemical properties, contribute to biofilm formation; defined as cell ...

Production and purification of constructed recombinant hirudin in BL21(DE3) strain
Background/Objective: Hirudin, an extract from the leech, has powerful antithrombin activity affecting the blood coagulation pathway, it is the most potent natural inhibitor of thrombin, it binds thrombin with high affinity, so, the aim of this study was to build hirudin gene by overlapping extension PCR then cloning and expression in BL21(DE3) strain ...
