Monascus spp. fermented brown seaweeds extracts enhance bio-functional activities

Food Bioscience, 2018
Abstract Two species of brown seaweeds, Saccharina japonica and Undaria pinnatifida were fermented by the red molds; Monascus purpureus and Monascus kaoliang to increase their bio-functional properties. The phenolic contents of S. japonica fermented by M. purpureus (SjMp) and M. kaoliang (SjMk) were the highest 71.53 ± 2.25 and 66.50 ± 4.64 mg gallic

Drying and extraction effects on three edible brown seaweeds for metabolomics

Journal of Applied Phycology, 2018
Metabolomics is often used to comprehensively elucidate the metabolites in organisms like seaweed. Amino acids hydrolysed from proteins and certain targeted metabolites in seaweed have been investigated. However, water-soluble metabolites like free amino acids, organic acids, and sugars have seldom been comprehensively analysed.

Seasonality of the brown seaweed Halopteris scoparia extracts’ antioxidation potential

2022
Recently, researchers are drawn to investigate seaweeds as a source of compounds with various biological activities. Seaweeds produce phytochemicals as a response to the fluctuation of various environmental factors such as salinity, temperature, UV radiation, nutrient availability, and predators’ activity.

Microwave-Assisted Extraction of Fucoidan from the Brown Seaweed (Laminaria Digitata) Biomass

2024 59th International Scientific Conference on Information, Communication and Energy Systems and Technologies (ICEST)
This study aimed to find the advanced extraction procedure for fucoidan isolation from the brown seaweed (Laminaria digitata) biomass. The closed-vessel microwave- assisted extraction system was optimized according to the maximal fucoidan yield by varying the extraction time, extraction temperature, and liquid-to-solid ratio using the Box- Behnken ...

Anti-bacterial activity of extracts from the brown seaweed Stoechospermum marginatum

Phytochemistry, 1982
Abstract The methanol extract of the brown seaweed Stoechospermum marginatum was found to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus . The active constituents were found to be a mixture of diterpenoid monoacetates having the spatane skeleton.

Enzyme-assisted extraction of bioactive compounds from brown seaweeds and characterization

Journal of Applied Phycology, 2019
Brown algae comprise the largest biomass producers in coastal waters and play important ecological roles. The complex nature of cell wall polysaccharides limits the extraction of bioactive compounds from these seaweeds. The aim of the study was to use enzyme-assisted extraction as a tool to release the bioactive compounds from seven brown seaweeds of ...

Ultrasound extraction of fucoidan and its antioxidant activities from tropical brown seaweeds

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
This study investigated ultrasound extraction (UE) process parameters (time and solvent) to obtain a high yield of fucoidan extracts and associated antioxidant activities from two tropical seaweeds (Sargassum binderi Sonder and Padina australis). UE parameters were time variable (30 and 60 min), solvent variable (distilled water, 2 % CaCl2, 0.1 M HCl).
