Cytogenetic studies of the F1 hybrids of Capsicum annuum with C. chinense and C. baccatum

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1987
Partially sterile interspecific hybrids were obtained between C. annuum var. 'cerasiformis' and C. chinense var. 'mishme' (H1), and C. annuum var. 'cerasiformis' and C. baccatum var. 'pendulum' (H2). Morphologically the F1 hybrids were intermediate between the corresponding parents. Meiosis was irregular in the two F1 hybrids.

Cytogenetic studies on the interspecific hybrid Capsicum baccatum L. C. frutescens L. and its progeny

Euphytica, 1992
Morphological and cytogenetical studies were carried out on the F1 and F2 hybrids and backcross derivatives of the interspecific cross Capsicum baccatum L. x C. frutescens L. The F1 and F2 hybrids displayed irregular meiosis with a maximum association of eight chromosomes in the former and one quadrivalent in the latter with the appropriate number of ...

Variation for bioactive compounds in ají (Capsicum baccatum L.) and rocoto (C. pubescens R. & P.) and implications for breeding

Euphytica, 2009
Aji (Capsicum baccatum L.) and rocoto (C. pubescens R. & P.) are two Capsicum pepper species native to the Andean region that have not been subjected to intensive breeding. However, the increase in its demand in European markets has sparked the development of breeding programmes for adaptation to Mediterranean climates, which include breeding for ...

Production of embryo rescued hybrids between the landrace “Friariello” (Capsicum annuum var. annuum) and C. baccatum var. pendulum: phenotypic and cytological characterization

Euphytica, 2018
Capsicum baccatum var. pendulum is a valuable source of disease resistance and fruit quality traits that could play an important role in the genetic improvement and safeguard of local varieties of common peppers. Howeve r, its use for C. annuum var. annuum breeding has been scarce due to postzy- gotic incompatibilities.
