Myostatin Regulates Cell Survival during C2C12 Myogenesis
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2001During the myogenic process in vitro, proliferating myoblasts withdraw irreversible from the cell cycle, acquire an apoptosis-resistant phenotype, and fuse into mature myotubes. The key factor regulating both myocyte cell cycle exit and viability during this transition is the the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21(cip1).

Myosin phosphatase and myosin phosphorylation in differentiating C2C12 cells
Journal of Muscle Research and Cell Motility, 2003C2C12 cells offer a useful model to study the differentiation of non-muscle cells to skeletal muscle cells. Myosin phosphorylation and changes in related enzymes, with an emphasis on myosin phosphatase (MP) were analyzed over the first 6 days of C2C12 differentiation.

Metformin limits ceramide-induced senescence in C2C12 myoblasts
Mechanisms of Ageing and Development, 2013High lipid and ceramide concentrations are hallmarks of obese and/or insulin resistant skeletal muscle, yet little is known about its role on cell cycle and senescence. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of ceramide on muscle senescence, and whether metformin limited this response.Low passage, proliferating C2C12 myoblasts were treated ...

The Differentiation of C2C12 Cells to Myotube by Paraquat
2010Paraquat (1,1’-dimethyl-4,4’-bipyridinium dichloride), producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) to show its toxicity is one of herbicides once widely used. Although the toxicity of paraquat on human and animals is too strong, paraquat is still in use in many developing countries. Therefore it is important to know the risk of paraquat on mammals.
