There is a general need for markers of systemic inflammation in acute or chronic diseases, where complement activation is involved. Available methods to monitor complement activation are elaborate and of low sensitivity; they include haemolytic assays (CH50), quantification of fluid phase terminal complex (C5b-C9) and quantification of complement split

Total salivary IgA, serum C3c and IgA in obese school children
Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, 2002Studies of the immunologic function in adult obese humans and experimental models indicate that excess adiposity is associated with impairments in host defense mechanisms. The aim of this work was to analyze the secretory and humoral immune system in obese children (n = 105, 55 boys, 50 girls ), between 6 and 13 years of age.

Production of antibody against C3c epitopes which are inaccessible on native C3
Journal of Immunological Methods, 1983Anti-C3c antiserum was induced by immunizing rabbits with autologous erythrocytes coated with human C3b/C3bi. By absorption with human plasma this antiserum was rendered specific for C3c epitopes which are not expressed on native C3. This specificity may be analogous to that of immunoconglutinin.

Circulating complement (C3),C3c and immune complexes in ABPA patients
Serodiagnosis and Immunotherapy in Infectious Disease, 1990Abstract Complement (C3), its split product (C3c), CRP and circulating immune complexes were studied in 10 patients with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) and compared with 10 age and sex matched controls. An insignificant decrease and significant increase in the levels of C3 and C3c, respectively, was observed in ABPA patients in ...

We have used quantitative 2D gel electrophoresis to analyze serum proteins from 422 patients with neurodegenerative diseases and normal individuals in an unbiased approach to identify biomarkers. Differences in abnormal serum levels were found between amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's disease (PD), and related disorders for 34 protein ...

Hypercatabolism of Complement in Crohn's Disease—Assessment of Circulating C3c
ABSTRACT. Split products from the main complement component 3 (C3) were investigated in untreated outpatients, 20 with Crohn's disease and 20 with ulcerative colitis. The median plasma concentration of c split product of C3 (C3c) in normals was 2 mg·l‐1, in patients with Crohn's disease 20 mg·l‐1 and in patients with ulcerative colitis 3 mg·l‐1.
