Hypercatabolism of Complement in Crohn's Disease—Assessment of Circulating C3c

open access: closedActa Medica Scandinavica, 1983
ABSTRACT. Split products from the main complement component 3 (C3) were investigated in untreated outpatients, 20 with Crohn's disease and 20 with ulcerative colitis. The median plasma concentration of c split product of C3 (C3c) in normals was 2 mg·l‐1, in patients with Crohn's disease 20 mg·l‐1 and in patients with ulcerative colitis 3 mg·l‐1.

Circulating C3, C4, and C3 Split Products (C3c and C3d) During Normal Pregnancy*

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Reproductive Immunology, 1982
ABSTRACT: The plasma concentrations of the complement components C3 and C4, as well as the split products C3c and C3d, were measured before, during, and after normal pregnancy. Significantly increased values were observed in the C3 and C3d levels in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.

Complement C3c and related protein biomarkers in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2006
We have used quantitative 2D gel electrophoresis to analyze serum proteins from 422 patients with neurodegenerative diseases and normal individuals in an unbiased approach to identify biomarkers. Differences in abnormal serum levels were found between amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's disease (PD), and related disorders for 34 protein ...

A simple method for preparation of C3c fragment from trypsinized serum‐ reacted zymosan

open access: closedTransfusion, 1980
A simple method for preparing relatively pure C3c fragment from serum‐ reacted zymosan is described. Although hyperimmunization studies indicate contamination of the “C3c” product by C3d and immunoglobulin antigenic materials, these are present in such small amounts that they do not impair the effectiveness of the product as a reagent for absorbing ...

Bovine conglutinin binds to an oligosaccharide determinant presented by iC3b, but not by C3, C3b or C3c.

open access: greenImmunology, 1994
Bovine conglutinin is a serum lectin that agglutinates erythrocytes preincubated with antibodies and complement. This agglutination occurs through the binding of conglutinin to iC3b, a fragment of the complement component C3. It was reported that conglutinin binds fluid-phase C3b and C3c as well as iC3b. We re-investigated the reactivity of conglutinin

Glomerular C3c deposition and intravascular macrophage accumulation in early humoral renal allograft rejection signifies a poor short-term outcome

open access: yesApmis, 2006
C4d deposition in the walls of peritubular capillaries is considered the key phenomenon in the histopathological diagnosis of humoral, i.e. antibody-mediated, allograft rejection.

Significance of Glomerular Deposition of C3c and C3d in IgA Nephropathy

American Journal of Nephrology, 2000
Background: Complement activation plays an important role in the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy. The clinico-pathological significance of the glomerular deposition of complement breakdown products, C3c and C3d in IgA nephropathy remains to be clarified.

Plasma C3c in immune-mediated neurological diseases: a preliminary report

Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 1991
Plasma C3c levels were examined in 56 patients with immune (27) and non-immune (29) mediated neurological diseases by crossed immunoelectrophoresis. Plasma samples were collected during the active phase of illness in both groups, usually within 7 days of admission.

Epitope specificities and quantitative and serologic aspects of monoclonal complement (C3c and C3d) antibodies

Transfusion, 1987
Twenty‐two monoclonal antibodies to human C3c and ten to C3d were obtained by hybridization after the immunization of mice with complement‐coated human red cells and/or purified human complement components. C3c antibodies were variable in their agglutination reactions with cells coated with C3 by antibody in vitro; more consistent and potent reactions ...
