Theoretical Study of Thermal Cracking For Acenaphthylene Molecule

open access: yesمجلة بغداد للعلوم, 2013
Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to study the thermal cracking for acenaphthylene molecule to estimate the bond energies for breaking C8b-C5a , C5a-C5 , C5-C4 , and C5-H5 bonds as well as the activation energies.

C5a in the peripheral plasma of female fibromyalgia patients is elevated but not related to pain sensitivity as in healthy controls

open access: yesScientific Reports
Although evidence from basic studies indicates that C5a induces hyperalgesia, knowledge from studies of humans is limited. This comparative analysis of the peripheral blood C5a concentration of women diagnosed with fibromyalgia (FM) who exhibited ...

Novel tetronamides derived from mucobromic acid: synthesis, structural elucidation, DFT calculations and phytotoxic activity

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The acyclic mucobromic acid, activated by (1S)‐(+)‐10‐camphorsulfonic acid, afforded the chiral compound 1b, precursor for aza‐Michael addition/elimination on the butenolide yielding tetronamides 2b‐7b. Their relative SRSR configuration was confirmed by the spectrometric methods, DFT calculation and statistical methods.

C5a and C5a(desArg) enhance the susceptibility of monocyte-derived macrophages to HIV infection

open access: yes, 2001
Mononuclear phagocytes, which include circulating blood monocytes and differentiated tissue macrophages, are believed to play a central role in the sexual transmission of HIV infection.

The anti‐C5a antibody vilobelimab efficiently inhibits C5a in patients with severe COVID‐19

open access: yes, 2022
Recently, we reported the phase II portion of the adaptive phase II/III PANAMO trial exploring potential benefit and safety of selectively blocking C5a with the monoclonal antibody vilobelimab (IFX-1) in patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 ...

Unlocking n‐alk‐1‐ynes conformers: Quantum “trigger finger” versus “stiff joint” conformations

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
Quantum chemical analysis reveals the unique function of n‐alk‐1‐yne terminus as a Quantum “Trigger Finger,” exhibiting two near‐isoenergetic conformers (Cs ${\mathrm{C}}_{s}$and C1 ${\mathrm{C}}_{1}$) locked by a symmetric high barrier. This contrasts with the lower asymmetric barrier of the conventional asymmetric “Stiff Joint” alkyl chain.

Role of C5 Activation Products in Sepsis

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2010
Complement activation products are known to be generated in the setting of both experimental and human sepsis. C5 activation products (C5a anaphylatoxin and the membrane attack complex [MAC] C5b-9) are generated during sepsis following infusion of ...

Characterisation of C5a receptor agonists from phage display libraries

open access: yes, 2003
C5a des-Arg74 has a 10- to 100-fold lower receptor binding affinity than intact C5a and is only a partial agonist. We have used phage display selection from randomly mutated C5a des-Arg74 libraries to isolate variant proteins that can activate C5a ...

Seismic evaluation of the southbound Stellenberg Interchange Bridge, B5593, in South Africa

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This study presents a nonlinear finite element assessment of the seismic vulnerability of Bridge B5593, located in the south‐western region of South Africa. Previous evaluations identified a high likelihood of column failure; however, these were based on linear material models incapable of capturing damage evolution.
