Mechanisms of exercise-induced muscle damage and fatigue: Intracellular calcium accumulation

open access: yesJournal of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine, 2012
Contraction-induced compromise of muscle function and, in the extreme, muscle damage has been linked to loss of Ca2+ homeostasis and resultant sustained elevation of intracellular Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i).

TPI1 Loss Triggers a Metabolite‐Driven Mitochondrial Redox Vulnerability via the SARM1–cADPR–Ca2+ Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metabolite‐driven redox stress governs cancer cell senescence. TPI1 deficiency elevates DHAP, initiating SARM1‐dependent cADPR‐Ca2+ release. Mitochondrial ROS surge subsequently induces DNA damage and senescence, offering a conserved therapeutic target in multiple cancers.

A Programmable Calcification Nanoplatform for Loco‐Regional Calcification‐Immune Hepatocellular Carcinoma Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An in situ‐grown BP‐CaO2 nanoplatform supplies coordinated Ca2+, endogenous phosphate, and oxidative stress to convert tumor calcification from a passive endpoint into an active immune‐remodeling process. Widespread hydroxyapatite deposition is visualized by CT, while multi‐omics reveals MCOLN2 as a calcium‐responsive mediator linking biomineralization

TMEM65-dependent Ca2+ extrusion safeguards mitochondrial homeostasis

open access: yesNature Communications
The bidirectional transport of Ca2+ into and out of mitochondria regulates metabolism, signaling, and cell fate. While influx is mediated by the Mitochondrial Calcium Uniporter (MCU) complex, efflux mechanisms are more diversified, involving Na⁺ or H ...

SOD1 PREVENTS MOTOR NEURON DEATH INDUCED BY THE CYCAD NEUROTOXIN BETA-METHYLAMINO-L-ALANINE BY MODULATING PLASMA MEMBRANE TARGETS INVOLVED IN INTRACELLULAR Ca2+ HOMEOSTASIS

open access: yes, 2018
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the loss of motor neurons. Although the incoming knowledge on the genetic aspects of the disease, the pathogenesis remains unknown.

Rewiring Pyroptosis to Potentiate Cancer Immunotherapy via a Gasdermin D Agonist Bypassing Caspase‐3

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces a small‐molecule agonist, DIBDO, that bypasses Casp‐3 to directly trigger GSDMD‐mediated pyroptosis in tumors. Activated by glutathione, DIBDO generates singlet oxygen and molecular iodine, blocking Casp‐3 pathways and inducing immunogenic cell death.

Ca2+ homeostasis regulates Xenopus oocyte maturation.

open access: yes, 2008
In contrast to the well-defined role of Ca2+ signals during mitosis, the contribution of Ca2+ signaling to meiosis progression is controversial, despite several decades of investigating the role of Ca2+ and its effectors in vertebrate oocyte maturation ...

A Supramolecular Thermal Switch for Precision Pyroptosis via Host−Guest Recognition and Electrostatic Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A supramolecular pyroptotic thermal switch encapsulates I3− within β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) and undergoes CaCO3 mineralization. Upon lysosomal acidification, CaCO3 is degraded, releasing Ca2+ and I3−. Concurrently, BODIPY activation converts I3− into I2, inducing oxidative stress and Ca2+ overload, which together trigger caspase‐3/GSDME‐mediated ...

Utero-placental calcium and magnesium ion channels: A systematic review of obstetric implications of their alterations

open access: yesChannels
Despite the established roles of calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) in placental function and uterine contractility, limited information exists on how dysregulation of major ion channels contributes to poor pregnancy outcomes. We synthesized data on the

Harmonizing Rigidity and Flexibility: Embedding COF Quantum Dots Into Extracellular Matrix Gel as Carbon Monoxide Depot for Acoustically Triggered Time‐Programmable Anti‐Infective Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A rigid‑flexible integrated CO depot is engineered by embedding rigid COFQDs into a flexible ECM gel network. The rigid framework enables high‑capacity CO storage and sonodynamic bacterial killing, while the flexible ECM gel controls sustained CO release, collectively eradicating multidrug‑resistant infection and promoting scarless healing.
