Integrative Approaches in Cardiovascular Disease: The Role of Nutraceuticals in Heart Failure, Atrial Fibrillation, and Related Conditions

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the shared pathophysiological mechanisms underlying heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF), including inflammation, oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, and fibrosis. The figure highlights the clinical and mechanistic convergence of conventional pharmacological therapies and selected nutraceuticals in ...

Gentiopicroside Regulates EGFR and Induces Its Lysosomal Degradation to Attenuate Heart Failure

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
GPS attenuates pressure overload‐induced cardiac remodeling by promoting lysosomal degradation of EGFR. TAC‐induced EGFR accumulation activates AKT/ERK1/2 signaling and drives pathological cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, apoptosis, oxidative stress, and cardiac dysfunction. GPS promotes lysosome‐dependent EGFR degradation, thereby limiting excessive AKT/

Sleep‐disordered breathing in valvular heart disease: A Modifiable comorbidity

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Sleep‐disordered breathing (SDB) is highly prevalent among patients with valvular heart disease (VHD) and is independently associated with adverse clinical outcomes. The two major phenotypes—obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and central sleep apnea (CSA)—exhibit distinct distributions across VHD subtypes. CSA predominates in severe aortic stenosis,

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Early Multicenter Outcomes of Dedicated Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement for Left Ventricular Assist Device‐Associated Pure Aortic Regurgitation

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
LVAD‐associated aortic regurgitation impairs circulatory support, with limited surgical and off‐label options. In a multicenter registry (n = 30), the AR‐dedicated JenaValve Trilogy TAVR eliminated AR, achieving 96.7% (29/30) technical success and 93.3% (28/30) device success (VARC‐3), with 3.3% (1/30) 30‐day mortality.

MicroRNA-449c-5p inhibits osteogenic differentiation of human VICs through Smad4-mediated pathway

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) is the most common heart valve disorder, yet its mechanism remains poorly understood. Valve interstitial cells (VICs) are the prevalent cells in aortic valve and their osteogenic differentiation may be responsible for

Chd4 and ThPOK cooperate to preserve structural and electrophysiological integrity of the adult heart through Sprr1a repression

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Chd4/NuRD and ThPOK cooperate to maintain transcriptional repression and nuclear organization in adult cardiomyocytes. Chd4 loss reduces miR‐150‐5p, relieving repression of Sprr1a, while ThPOK loss further enhances Sprr1a activation, possibly through altered chromatin–lamina interactions.

Expression of SCL20A1 in human calcific aortic valve disease.

open access: yes, 2013
A. In human calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) tissues, expression of SLC20A1 was increased, both in tricuspid and bicuspid aortic valves, when compared to control non-mineralized aortic valves. B, C and D.

Trajectory of macrotroponin in a community cohort

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Cardiac troponin I (cTnI) is a biomarker for myocardial injury. However, macrotroponin, a complex of cTnI and endogenous cardiac troponin autoantibodies, may artefactually elevate cTnI levels with potential to mislead clinicians, leading to inappropriate investigation and management.
