The role of AMPK and CREB-1 in the regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis during muscle differentiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The aim of the study was to identify main regulators of mitochondrial biogenesis in a skeletal muscle differentiation model. To investigate candidate factors we used the cytochrome c promoter as a representative promoter since cytochrome c levels ...

Repurposing antimicrobial agents for neuroprotection: Mechanisms, clinical potential, and challenges

open access: yesNeuroprotection, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial agents exert neuroprotective effects through modulation of interconnected pathways. Tetracyclines, macrolides, antimalarial agents, sulfones, and antiparasitic agents suppress neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis while preserving mitochondrial function and neurotransmission.

Toxoplasma gondii Infection After Kidney Transplantation: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesOrgan Medicine, EarlyView.
Toxoplasma gondii infection after kidney transplantation is rare and presents with nonspecific clinical manifestations; however, the associated mortality rate is high. We discuss the relevant literature, clinical manifestations, therapeutic regimens, and prognoses of post‐transplantation toxoplasmosis.

Belatacept and non-melanoma skin cancer risk in kidney transplant recipients: a narrative review from a mechanistic and clinical perspective

open access: yesBMC Nephrology
Non-melanoma skin cancer is a prevalent complication in renal transplant recipients due to long-term immunosuppressive therapy. Calcineurin inhibitors, such as tacrolimus and cyclosporine, are effective in preventing graft rejection; however, they ...

Multi‐Target Pharmacological Mechanisms of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge in Metabolic Syndrome and Cardiovascular Diseases: A Comprehensive Review Based on the Theory of “Same Treatment for Different Diseases”

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge in metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases: multi‐target actions on shared signaling pathways. ABSTRACT Metabolic syndrome (MetS) represents a clinical disorder characterized by the clustering of conditions including obesity, elevated blood sugar levels, and high lipid levels, which are intricately linked to the onset ...

Harnessing the nonthermal effects of ultrasound for cancer treatment: From mechanisms to applications

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
Nonthermal ultrasound transforms acoustic energy into diverse therapeutic bioeffects through cavitation, mechanical stimulation, and physicochemical activation. This review discusses how acoustic parameters, biological mechanisms, and responsive materials interact to influence nonthermal ultrasound‐enabled cancer therapies. Mechanism‐guided engineering

Plant‐derived nanovesicles as potential drug delivery systems for topical use: Emerging applications in dermatology and cosmetology

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Plant‐derived nanovesicles (PDNVs) are naturally secreted by fruit, vegetables, seeds, leaves and other natural sources. Used as drug delivery systems, they can combine intrinsic therapeutic activity, enhanced skin permeation and cargo‐carrying capacity, suitable for dermatological and cosmetic applications including hydration, antioxidant/anti ...
