Effectiveness of Procalcitonin as a Diagnostic Marker vs Other Inflammatory Markers in Infected Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A Case-control Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Anatomy Radiology and Surgery, 2023
Introduction: Procalcitonin (PCT), is an amino acid protein precursor of calcitonin hormone, which is released by thyroid parafollicular cells or other body cells.

Rimegepant, an Oral Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide Receptor Antagonist, for Migraine.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2019
BACKGROUND Calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor has been implicated in the pathogenesis of migraine. Rimegepant is an orally administered, small-molecule, calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor antagonist that may be effective in acute migraine ...

Complications after medullary thyroid carcinoma surgery: multicentre study of the SQRTPA and EUROCRINE® databases

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This study investigated postoperative complications after surgery for medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in Europe. Hypoparathyroidism, recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy and bleeding requiring reoperation occurred in 170 (26·2 per cent), 62 (13·7 per cent) and 17 (2·6 per cent) patients respectively.

New reference intervals for endocrinological biomarkers in pediatric patients: what can we learn from the LIFE child study?

open access: yesJournal of Laboratory Medicine, 2021
We established reference intervals for serum concentrations of hormones from healthy pediatric subjects and investigated their associations with gender, body mass index (BMI), puberty and oral contraceptives (oC).

Aneurysmal bone cyst at C2: imaging evaluation after intralesional injection of calcitonin and methylprednisolone Cisto ósseo aneurismático em C2: avaliação por imagem após injeção intralesional de calcitonina e metilprednisolona

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 2008
Objective: To demonstrate imaging findings during the follow-up of patients with aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) of C2 treated with intralesional injection of calcitonin and methylprednisolone. METHOD: Three patients with ABC of C2 were treated percutaneously

The value of routine measurement of serum calcitonin on insufficient, indeterminate, and suspicious thyroid nodule cytology

open access: yesBiomolecules & Biomedicine, 2022
Routine calcitonin measurement in patients with nodular thyroid disease is rather controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the contribution of serum calcitonin measurement in the diagnostic evaluation of thyroid nodules with insufficient ...

Lasmiditan inhibits calcitonin gene-related peptide release in the rodent trigeminovascular system

open access: yesPain, 2020
Lasmiditan, an antimigraine drug with selective 5-HT1F receptor affinity, prejunctionally inhibits calcitonin gene-related peptide release in peripheral and central trigeminal nerve terminals of rodents.

Patient‐Reported Outcomes with Selpercatinib Treatment Among Patients with RET‐Mutant Medullary Thyroid Cancer in the Phase I/II LIBRETTO‐001 Trial

open access: yesThe Oncologist, EarlyView., 2021
Abstract Background Medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) standard of care includes multikinase inhibitors (MKIs), which can exacerbate disease‐related diarrhea, primarily because of non‐RET kinase inhibition. We report diarrhea and other patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) with selpercatinib, a highly selective RET inhibitor, among patients with RET‐mutant MTC ...

Oral calcitonin

open access: yesInternational Journal of Women's Health, 2012
Calcitonin is a hormone secreted by the C-cells of the thyroid gland in response to elevations of the plasma calcium level. It reduces bone resorption by inhibiting mature active osteoclasts and increases renal calcium excretion. It is used in the management of postmenopausal osteoporosis, Paget's disease of bone, and malignancy-associated ...
