Endocrinology, 1987The function of the parathyroid gland is closely linked to intracellular and extracellular Ca2+ concentrations. As a step toward understanding the mechanism of action of Ca2+ on the parathyroid, we examined hyperplastic human parathyroid tissue for Ca2+ and calmodulin-dependent protein kinase activity.

Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 1993Numerous studies over the past decade have established a role(s) for protein phosphorylation in modulation of synaptic efficiency. This article reviews this data and focuses on putative functions of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaM-kinase II) which is highly concentrated at these synapses which utilize glutamate as the neurotransmitter.
