Effect of calories-only vs physical activity calorie expenditure labeling on lunch calories purchased in worksite cafeterias [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2019
Abstract Background Calorie labeling on restaurant menus is a public health strategy to guide consumer ordering behaviors, but effects on calories purchased have been minimal. Displaying labels communicating the physical activity required to burn calories may be a more effective approach, but real-world comparisons are ...

The 'Mere-Reminder' Effect of Salient Calorie Labeling

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2015
Calorie labeling, an increasingly common policy intervention, has had mixed effects onconsumer food choices. We show that visual salience of the calorie labels, rather than merelyinformation content or format, is the key to reducing calorie. Our findings indicate that effectivelabeling, more visually salient than standard industry disclosures, works ...

Restriction of Individual Branched‐Chain Amino Acids has Distinct Effects on the Development and Progression of Alzheimer's Disease in 3xTg Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Protein restriction (PR) slows Alzheimer's disease (AD) in mice, and other benefits of PR are due to decreased branched‐chain amino acids (BCAAs). We show that restricting any BCAA has benefits, with sex‐ and BCAA‐specific impacts on pathology, molecular signaling, and cognition.

Calorie labelling on the high street

open access: yesBMJ, 2011
A step forward, but changes in food supply must follow In the linked cross sectional surveys (doi: 10.1136/bmj.d4464), Dumanovsky and colleagues assess the effect of a menu labelling regulation on calories (1 kcal=4.18 kJ) per purchase at fast food chains in New York City.1 The need to find new approaches to stimulate dietary change is self evident ...
