Adverse Interaction between Capecitabine and Warfarin Resulting in Altered Coagulation Parameters: A Review of the Literature Starting from a Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Medicine, 2010
Capecitabine is an orally active prodrug of fluorouracil and is extensively used as an antineoplastic agent. It is converted to 5-Fluorouracil in the liver and tumor tissues.

Two Decades of Multimodal Management of Colorectal Liver Metastases With Long‐Term Outcomes

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The management of patients with colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) is complex and requires a tailored approach based on disease extent, patient age, and comorbidities. Given the heterogeneity in presentation and evolving treatment algorithms, prognostic factors for long‐term survival following liver resection are contested.

Medical treatment of early stage and rare histological variants of epithelial ovarian cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Epithelial ovarian cancer is often considered a single pathological entity, but increasing evidence suggests that it is rather a group of different neoplasms, each with unique pathological characteristics, molecular features, and clinical behaviours ...

Diagnostic Impact of Liver Biopsy Among Antinuclear Antibody Positive Individuals With Mild Liver Enzyme Elevation

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
In ANA‐positive patients with suspected autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), liver biopsy rarely altered therapeutic management when alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was below 101 U/L and cirrhosis was absent. These findings suggest that biopsy may be safely deferred in this low‐risk group.

Targeting hexokinase 2 to induce breast cancer cell senescence

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Hexokinase 2 (HK2) is a key enzyme linked to high tumour cell proliferation. Its inhibitors such as 3‐bromopyruvic acid (3‐BP) induce cancer cell death, highlighting HK2 modulation as potential anti‐cancer treatment. However, standard chemotherapies often cause the emergence of senescent cancer cells, which goes along with cell ...

Photosensitive lichenoid skin reaction to capecitabine

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2017
Background Capecitabine is an oral prodrug of fluorouracil, which is a common agent used in the management of many solid tumor malignancies. Dermatologic reaction is common with various chemotherapy agents but is not commonly reported in the use of ...

Aspartate Transporter SLC1A3 Promotes Colorectal Cancer via MDM2‐p53 Pathway and M2 Macrophage Polarization

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
SLC1A3 promotes colorectal cancer progression by transporting extracellular aspartate into tumor cells, thereby activating the PKC/MDM2/p53 pathway to enhance proliferation. Reduced extracellular aspartate, combined with p53‐dependent suppression of CSF2 and IL17C, drives M2 macrophage polarization via immune modulation, macrophage recruitment, and M2 ...

Capecitabine-induced cicatricial ectropion: A case review

open access: yesThe Pan-American Journal of Ophthalmology
Capecitabine, an oral prodrug of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), offers a more targeted chemotherapeutic approach, reducing systemic side effects. However, cases of ocular side effects have been described in the literature. We report the case of a 94-year-old man
