Asymmetric Cu─N─Ru Bridgedsite Nanozyme‐Loaded Injectable Thermogel Boosts Cuproptosis‐Like Death for Multidrug‐Resistant Urinary Tract Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To address multidrug‐resistant urinary tract infections (MDR‐UTIs), we developed Cu‐ZIF8‐Ru nanozyme featuring an asymmetric Cu─N─Ru catalytic site. This unique structure enhances multienzyme‐mimetic activity, eradicating resistant bacteria by inducing a cuproptosis‐like death pathway through intracellular Cu2+ accumulation and energy depletion.

Antibacterial Applications of Black and Violet Phosphorus‐Based Biomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Black and violet phosphorus‐based biomaterials exhibit broad‐spectrum antibacterial efficacy in various infections, including bone, skin, ocular, dental, lung, and sepsis cases. Their antibacterial mechanisms include physical disruption, light‐driven effects, targeted drug delivery, and enhanced composite strategies.

Determination of Colistin Resistance in Clinical Isolates from Healthcare Facilities in Mthatha and Surrounding Areas

open access: yesAntibiotics
Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global threat in the public healthcare sector. The emergence of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) has become a serious public health threat in South Africa. The spread of CRE has led to the use of

Prevalence of Carbapenemase and Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase Producing Enterobacteriaceae: A Cross-Sectional Study

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2023
Enterobacteriaceae have been classified as severely drug resistant bacteria by the World Health Organization due to their extensive production and dissemination of carbapenemases (CPs) and extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL).

Long-Term Clinical and Ecological Impact of an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program on the Incidence of Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae Infections in a High-Endemic Hospital

open access: yesAntibiotics
Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-Kp) is currently a serious global concern. Antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) are one of the key strategies to overcome this resistance.

Synergistic Inhibition of MRSA by Chenodeoxycholic Acid and Carbapenem Antibiotics

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2022
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has posed a severe global health threat. In this study, we screened an antibiotic and non-antibiotic combination that provides a viable strategy to solve this issue by broadening the antimicrobial ...

New developments in carbapenems [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Microbiology and Infection, 2008
Antibiotic resistance among Gram-negative pathogens in hospitals is a growing threat to patients and is driving the increased use of carbapenems. Carbapenems are potent members of the beta-lactam family of antibiotics, with a history of safety and efficacy for serious infections that exceeds 20 years. Original and review articles were identified from a

A systematic scoping review of metrics utilized to measure antibiotic consumption in hospital settings

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programs were introduced to promote the judicious use of antimicrobials and to combat antimicrobial resistance. Quantifying antibiotic consumption is an important part of AMS initiatives to achieve these objectives.
