Experimental Models for the Study of Hereditary Cornification Defects
Ichthyoses comprise a broad spectrum of keratinization disorders due to hereditary defects of cornification. Until now, mutations in more than 50 genes, mostly coding for structural proteins involved in epidermal barrier formation, have been identified ...

The Ontogeny of Cardiac Regeneration [PDF]
### Transient Regenerative Potential of the Neonatal Mouse Heart Porello et al Science . 2011;331:1078–1080 The regenerative capacity of adult human hearts after infarction seems vestigial at best, perhaps because of the poor proliferative capacity of terminally differentiated cardiomyocytes and desecration of the local environment that would ...

The Aging Blood: Cellular Origins, Circulating Drivers, and Therapeutic Potential
As a conduit linking all organs, the blood system both reflects and actively drives systemic aging. This review highlights how circulating pro‐aging and antiaging factors and age‐associated hematopoietic stem cell dysfunction contribute to immunosenescence and multi‐organ decline, positioning the hematopoietic system as a target for aging intervention.

Pathfinder cells provide a novel therapeutic intervention for acute kidney injury [PDF]
Pathfinder cells (PCs) are a novel class of adult-derived cells that facilitate functional repair of host tissue. We used rat PCs to demonstrate that they enable the functional mitigation of ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury in a mouse model of renal ...

ABSTRACT Objective The Gold Coast criteria permit diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) even without upper motor neuron (UMN) signs. However, whether ALS patients with UMN signs (ALSwUMN) and those without (ALSwoUMN) share similar characteristics and prognoses remains unclear.

Β-blockers treatment of cardiac surgery patients enhances isolation and improves phenotype of cardiosphere-derived cells [PDF]
Β-blockers (BB) are a primary treatment for chronic heart disease (CHD), resulting in prognostic and symptomatic benefits. Cardiac cell therapy represents a promising regenerative treatment and, for autologous cell therapy, the patients clinical history ...

Regulating Retinoic Acid Availability during Development and Regeneration: The Role of the CYP26 Enzymes. [PDF]
This review focuses on the role of the Cytochrome p450 subfamily 26 (CYP26) retinoic acid (RA) degrading enzymes during development and regeneration. Cyp26 enzymes, along with retinoic acid synthesising enzymes, are absolutely required for RA homeostasis

The ability of the heart to regenerate to a meaningful extent after injury has been demonstrated in animal models, such as zebrafish1; however, higher organisms seem to have lost this advantageous capacity, leading to cell loss and subsequent heart failure after insult. Recent studies found a narrow window of regenerative opportunity during the first 7

Objective Mycophenolate Mofetil (MMF) use in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) is relatively uncommon due to the lower fibrotic burden and the predominance of the vascular complications. In vitro observations and clinical data from transplanted patients suggest a protective effect of MMF on endothelial function.
