The physicochemical properties of cardiolipin bilayers and cardiolipin-containing lipid membranes

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 2009
In this review article, we summarize the current state of biophysical knowledge concerning the phase behavior and organization of cardiolipin (CL) and CL-containing phospholipid bilayer model membranes. We first briefly consider the occurrence and distribution of CL in biological membranes and its probable biological functions therein. We next consider

Investigation into the delivery and evaluation of a unique Avena sativa (Oat) Lipid Extract on skin barrier using LC‒MS/MS, Raman spectroscopy, immunostaining analysis and skin efficacy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Oat lipids are rich in ceramides. In this investigation, we analysed the delivery of a specific Oat Lipid Extract derived from Avena sativa, comprising ‘skin identical’ ratios of fatty acids, ceramides and cholesterol/sterol. This investigation is the first reported investigation of oat lipids utilizing Raman spectroscopy for the ...

Ramoplanin at bactericidal concentrations induces bacterial membrane depolarization in Staphylococcus aureus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Ramoplanin is an actinomycetes-derived antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive bacteria that has been evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of gastrointestinal vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and Clostridium ...

Cardiolipin and mitochondrial carriers

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 2009
Members of the mitochondrial carrier family interact with cardiolipin (CL) as evident from a variety of functional and structural effects. CL stabilises carrier proteins on isolation with detergents, with the P(i) carrier as the prime example. CL is required for transport in reconstituted vesicles, prime examples are the P(i)- and ADP/ATP carrier (AAC).

Long‐term remission of type B insulin resistance syndrome with immunotherapy: A case report

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We report long‐term remission in a patient with type B insulin resistance achieved with a combination of immunotherapies. A 55‐year‐old Japanese man presented with nocturnal hypoglycemia and cytopenia. He also had postprandial hyperglycemia due to severe insulin resistance, which was difficult to manage using high‐dose insulin and recombinant ...

Phospholipids of five Indian food fishes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
The phospholipids of five Indian food fishes (sardine, pomfret, mackerel, anchovies and thrissocles) were fractionated quantitatively using column and thin layer chromatographic techniques and the results reported in this ...
