Procedural Characteristics and Safety of Slender Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: Slender Is Better. [PDF]

open access: yesCatheter Cardiovasc Interv
ABSTRACT Objectives We aimed to examine the procedural characteristics and safety profile of slender percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) using a 5 Fr or smaller sheath. Background Smaller catheter size has been associated with fewer complications in PCI.

Development of CPA-Catalyzed β-Selective Reductive Amination of Cardenolides for the Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Hydrolytically Stable Analogs. [PDF]

open access: yesChemistry
We describe a new method to produce hydrolytically stable cardiotonic steroids using a CPA‐controlled diastereoselective reductive amination of cardenolide aglycones. The oleandrin and digitoxigenin analogs exhibited promising activity against various cancer cell lines in the NCI‐60 screen.

Mesaconine alleviates doxorubicin-triggered cardiotoxicity and heart failure by activating PINK1-dependent cardiac mitophagy

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2023
Aberrant mitophagy has been identified as a driver for energy metabolism disorder in most cardiac pathological processes. However, finding effective targeted agents and uncovering their precise modulatory mechanisms remain unconquered.

Lipid Emulsion to Treat Acute Poisonings: Mechanisms of Action, Indications, and Controversies

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2023
Biodetoxification using intravenous lipid emulsion (ILE) in acute poisoning is of growing interest. As well as for local anesthetics, ILE is currently used to reverse toxicity caused by a broad-spectrum of lipophilic drugs.

Precision medicine considerations for the management of heart disease and stroke in East Asians

open access: yesCardiology Plus, 2020
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Asian Americans. Importantly, people of East Asian descent are more likely to carry a loss-of-function point mutation in aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2), ALDH2*2, which reduces ALDH2 enzymatic activity by ...

Influence of Acidosis on Cardiotonic Effects of Colforsin and Epinephrine: A Dose-Response Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
ObjectiveAcidosis produces a negative inotropic effect on cardiac muscle against which catecholamines and phosphodiesterase III inhibitors have limited therapeutic effects. This study evaluated the effects of colforsin, which directly activates adenylate

Novel cilostamide analogs, phosphodiesterase 3 inhibitors, produce positive inotropic but differential lusitropic and chronotropic effects on isolated rat atria [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2017
Objective(s): Recently, we showed that some new synthetic compounds structurally related to cilostamide (4-(1,2-dihydro-2-oxoquinolin-6-hydroxy)- N-cyclohexyl-N-methylbutanamide), a selective phosphodiesterase 3 (PDE3) inhibitor, produce inotropic effect
