The shuttle system that mediates the transport of fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane in invertebrates has received little attention. Carnitine O-palmitoyltransferase I (EC 2.3.1.21; CPT I) is a key component of this system that in vertebrates controls long-chain fatty acid beta-oxidation.

Carnitine O-Palmitoyltransferase 1, Brain Isoform [PDF]
Carnitine O-palmitoyltransferase 1, brain isoform (803 aa, ~91 kDa) is encoded by the human CPT1C gene. This protein plays a role in the mediation of carnitine acylation.

Introduction The importance of fatty acid oxidation (FAO) in the bioenergetics of glioblastoma (GBM) is being realized. Etomoxir (ETO), a carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT1) inhibitor exerts cytotoxic effects in GBM, which involve interrupting the ...

Sertraline-Associated Riboflavin-Responsive Lipid Storage Myopathy: Report of Two Case. [PDF]
Sertraline exposure can lead to an acquired riboflavin‐responsive multiple acyl‐CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (MADD). In patients with this acquired form of MADD, riboflavin supplementation can even lead to full clinical recovery and marked serological recovery before discontinuation of sertraline.

Carnitine Palmitoyltransferase System: A New Target for Anti-Inflammatory and Anticancer Therapy?
Lipid metabolism involves multiple biological processes. As one of the most important lipid metabolic pathways, fatty acid oxidation (FAO) and its key rate-limiting enzyme, the carnitine palmitoyltransferase (CPT) system, regulate host immune responses ...

Background Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a chronic lung disease in premature infants that may cause long-term lung dysfunction. Accumulating evidence supports the vascular hypothesis of BPD, in which lung endothelial cell dysfunction drives this ...

The NADPH oxidase NOX4 regulates redox and metabolic homeostasis preventing HCC progression
Loss of NOX4 in HCC tumor cells induces metabolic reprogramming in a Nrf2/MYC‐dependent manner to promote HCC progression. Abstract Background and Aims The NADPH oxidase NOX4 plays a tumor‐suppressor function in HCC. Silencing NOX4 confers higher proliferative and migratory capacity to HCC cells and increases their in vivo tumorigenic potential in ...

RIPK3 dampens mitochondrial bioenergetics and lipid droplet dynamics in metabolic liver disease
RIPK3 dampens mitochondrial bioenergetics and lipid droplet dynamics in metabolic liver disease. Abstract Background and Aims Receptor‐interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3) mediates NAFLD progression, but its metabolic function is unclear. Here, we aimed to investigate the role of RIPK3 in modulating mitochondria function, coupled with lipid droplet (LD)
