Kinetics of lycopene degradation in sunflower and grape seed oils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The stability of lycopene in two vegetable oils, sunflower seed oil (SSO) and grape seed oil (GSO), was investigated by analyzing the carotenoid degradation kinetics in the temperature range of 10–40°C.

Photoactivation Mechanism, Timing of Protein Secondary Structure Dynamics and Carotenoid Translocation in the Orange Carotenoid Protein

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2018
The orange carotenoid protein (OCP) is a two-domain photoactive protein that noncovalently binds an echinenone (ECN) carotenoid and mediates photoprotection in cyanobacteria.

An Allele of Glutamate Formiminotransferase Triggers 5‐Methyl‐Tetrahydrofolate‐to‐MeFox Conversion and Facilitates Folate Biofortification in Maize

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates the distinct roles of the glutamate formiminotransferase (GFT) enzyme in plants. The GFT triggers the conversion of 5‐methyl‐tetrahydrofolate to MeFox in plants, a process distinct from its role as a formiminotransferase in mammals.

Combining genome‐wide association and genomic prediction to unravel the genetic architecture of carotenoid accumulation in carrot

open access: yesThe Plant Genome
Carrots (Daucus carota L.) are a rich source of provitamin A, namely, α‐ and β‐carotene. Breeding programs prioritize increasing β‐carotene content for improved color and nutrition.

Influence of nitrogen variation and 15% CO2 injection on wax ester production in Euglena gracilis isolated from Dieng Peatland, Indonesia

open access: yesApplied Phycology
Biodiesel production requires alternative feedstocks that are both renewable and environmentally friendly. Euglena gracilis is a microorganism capable of producing wax esters, which show strong potential as alternative fuels due to their high ...

A Study on the Cell Layer Patterns of a Citrus Periclinal Chimera Reveals β‐Cryptoxanthin Regulation in Citrus Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers have identified a citrus chimera with distinctive tissue origins and carotenoid profiles. It is discovered that fruit tissues develop from all three cell layers but in different proportions. A key transcription factor, MYB107, regulates β‐cryptoxanthin production by directly activating carotenoid biosynthesis genes, explaining why some ...

Characterization of carotenoid profiles and presence of functional markers in sub-tropical maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines

open access: yesCzech Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding
Biofortification provides a sustainable, pragmatic strategy to address the lack of vitamin A and the associated health complications. The objectives of the study encompassed the quantification of the carotenoid content of 147 maize inbred lines, the ...
