Huntingtin inhibits caspase‐3 activation [PDF]

open access: yesThe EMBO Journal, 2006
Huntington's disease results from a mutation in the HD gene encoding for the protein huntingtin. The function of huntingtin, although beginning to be elucidated, remains largely unclear. To probe the prosurvival function of huntingtin, we modulate levels of wild-type huntingtin in a number of cellular and in vivo models.

MDA-MB-231 cell apoptosis in vitro induced by dihydromyricetin

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2012
To investigate the effect of dihydromyricetin (DMY) induction on MDA-MB-231 cell apoptosis and its mechanism, the changes of cell morphological characteristics were observed under inverted microscope.

Astaxanthin effect on apoptotic biomarkers in methotrexate-induced liver injury

open access: yesAl-Mustansiriyah Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2022
Methotrexate is used in the treatment of cancer, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and several other disorders. It has a hepatotoxic potential side effect. Patients who have no access to alternative medications face a serious   challenge as a result.

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Caspase-3 [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2003
Caspase-3 is a fundamental target for pharmaceutical interventions against a variety of diseases involving disregulated apoptosis. The enzyme is active as a dimer with two symmetry-related active sites, each featuring a Cys-His catalytic dyad and a selectivity loop, which recognizes the characteristic DEVD pattern of the substrate.

Altered of apoptotic markers of both extrinsic and intrinsic pathways induced by hepatitis C virus infection in peripheral blood mononuclear cells

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2012
Background Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) has emerged as a leading cause of cirrhosis in the U.S. and across the world. To understand the role of apoptotic pathways in hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, we studied the mRNA and protein expression patterns of ...

Overexpression of caspase-3 in hepatocellular carcinomas [PDF]

open access: yesModern Pathology, 2004
Caspase-3 is a downstream effector cysteine protease in the apoptotic pathway. It is ubiquitously expressed in normal human tissues including the liver. Overexpression and loss of expression of caspase-3 has been reported in diverse human malignancies. However, expression of caspase-3 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has not been studied.

Effect of Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr. on the histopathology of the diabetic pancreas via caspase family expression [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy & Pharmacognosy Research
Context: Diabetes is a prominent cause of mortality globally, particularly in Indonesia. Elevated glucose levels stimulate insulin secretion from pancreatic β cells. A variety of drugs, including oral treatments and synthetic insulin, have been developed

Caspase-3, Shears for Synapse Pruning [PDF]

open access: yesDevelopmental Cell, 2014
Motor neurons regulate neuromuscular junction formation by using agrin to stimulate acetylcholine receptor clustering and using acetylcholine to disperse unnecessary receptor clusters on muscle fibers. Wang et al. (2014) now report in this issue of Developmental Cell a critical role for caspase-3 in intracellular mechanisms of acetylcholine-induced ...

Apoptotic Volume Decrease (AVD) Is Independent of Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Initiator Caspase Activation

open access: yesCells, 2012
Persistent cell shrinkage is a major hallmark of apoptotic cell death. The early-phase shrinkage, which starts within 30−120 min after apoptotic stimulation and is called apoptotic volume decrease (AVD), is known to be accomplished by activation of K ...

Tau and Caspase 3 as Targets for Neuroprotection [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, 2012
The peptide drug candidate NAP (davunetide) has demonstrated protective effects in variousin vivoandin vitromodels of neurodegeneration. NAP was shown to reduce tau hyperphosphorylation as well as to prevent caspase-3 activation and cytochrome-3 release from mitochondria, both characteristic of apoptotic cell death. Recent studies suggest that caspases
