Persistent cell shrinkage is a major hallmark of apoptotic cell death. The early-phase shrinkage, which starts within 30−120 min after apoptotic stimulation and is called apoptotic volume decrease (AVD), is known to be accomplished by activation of K ...

Characterization of Canine Caspase-3
The canine caspase-3 gene was cloned and sequenced. The canine caspase-3 cDNA clone was 1473 base pairs in length and encoded 277 amino acids. The predicted amino acid sequence showed 88.4%, 88.0%, 85.9%, 65.9% and 60.6% homology with that of human, pig, mouse, chicken and zebra fish caspase-3, respectively.

Tau and Caspase 3 as Targets for Neuroprotection [PDF]
The peptide drug candidate NAP (davunetide) has demonstrated protective effects in variousin vivoandin vitromodels of neurodegeneration. NAP was shown to reduce tau hyperphosphorylation as well as to prevent caspase-3 activation and cytochrome-3 release from mitochondria, both characteristic of apoptotic cell death. Recent studies suggest that caspases

Immunohistochemical Expression of Caspase 3 in Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a persistent chronic immune-mediated, relapsing, inflammatory and hyper proliferative skin disorder with genetic predisposition. Psoriasis can be considered as a T-cell mediated disease, with a complex role for a variety of cytokine interaction between keratinocytes and T-lymphocytes.

Screening for Caspase-3 Inhibitors: A New Class of Potent Small-Molecule Inhibitors of Caspase-3 [PDF]
From the authors' 650,000 compound collection, they have selected approximately 15,000 potential small-molecule protease inhibitors, which were subjected to high-throughput screening against caspase-3. The screening yielded a series of hits that belong to 11 different scaffolds.

Bacterial secreted effectors and caspase‐3 interactions [PDF]
Apoptosis is a critical process that intrinsically links organism survival to its ability to induce controlled death. Thus, functional apoptosis allows organisms to remove perceived threats to their survival by targeting those cells that it determines pose a direct risk.

Kaposi's sarcoma herpesvirus microRNAs target caspase 3 and regulate apoptosis.
Kaposi's sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV) encodes a cluster of twelve micro (mi)RNAs, which are abundantly expressed during both latent and lytic infection.

Active caspase-3 is removed from cells by release of caspase-3-enriched vesicles
Cleavage of Rho associated Coiled Coil kinase I (ROCK I) by caspase-3 contributes to membrane blebbing. Whether caspase-3 and ROCK I also play a role in the release of membrane vesicles is unknown. Therefore, we transfected a human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7) that is caspase-3 deficient, lacks membrane blebbing, and does not release membrane ...
