Anchored FRET sensors detect local caspase activation prior to neuronal degeneration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND: Recent studies indicate local caspase activation in dendrites or axons during development and in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD).

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Expression of the Apoptotic Proteins in Glioblastoma U87-MG Cell Line Treated by Botulinum Toxin

open access: yesInternational Clinical Neuroscience Journal, 2020
Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most type of brain malignancy in adults. Radical excision surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy in some cases are still unsuccessful, and most patients with GBM die within 3 to 6 months following ...

IL-1R and inflammasomes mediate early pulmonary protective mechanisms in respiratory brucella abortus infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Brucella spp. infection is frequently acquired through contaminated aerosols. The role of interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) in the early pulmonary response to respiratory Brucella infection is unknown.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

The molecular mechanism and evolutionary divergence of caspase 3/7-regulated gasdermin E activation

open access: yeseLife
Caspase (CASP) is a family of proteases involved in cleavage and activation of gasdermin, the executor of pyroptosis. In humans, CASP3 and CASP7 recognize the same consensus motif DxxD, which is present in gasdermin E (GSDME).
