Assessing the role of eosinophil‐mediated immune response markers in detecting hookworm infection: A case‐control study in Kintampo, Ghana

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, 2022
Background and Aim Human hookworm disease caused by Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus is a serious public health problem. Hookworm infection activates eosinophil‐mediated tissue inflammatory responses, involving the production of the ...

Differential Roles for IL‐4Rα and IL‐13Rα1 in Immune Cell Infiltration and Epithelial Remodeling in Experimental Eosinophilic Gastritis

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This study described the development of an experimental model for eosinophilic gastritis (EoG). Experimental EoG recapitulates histopathological features of human disease. including foveolar elongation, fibrosis, eosinophilia, mastocytosis and shared transcriptional programs.

Distinct Immunometabolic Profiles in Finnish and Russian Karelian Adolescents With Contrasting Allergy Risk

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
We compared Finnish and Russian Karelian adolescents with contrasting allergy burden using integrated proteomic, metabolomic, and transcriptomic profiling. Finnish adolescents showed a broader pro‐inflammatory PBMC secretory profile consistent with a low‐grade inflammatory phenotype.

Structural insights into tyrosine sulfation of CCR5 by human tyrosylprotein sulfotransferase‐1

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Structural analysis of human tyrosylprotein sulfotransferase‐1 (hTPST1) bound to a CCR5 N‐terminal peptide reveals how hTPST1 recognizes the Tyr3 sulfation site. Structure‐guided models of additional CCR5 sulfation states and full‐length assemblies provide a framework for understanding CCR5 tyrosine sulfation, a post‐translational modification relevant

Tocilizumab for severe and refractory mucous membrane pemphigoid

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Elevated IL‐6 levels identified in mucous membrane pemphigoid support IL‐6 blockade, with tocilizumab demonstrating clinical benefit in nine patients with severe and refractory mucous membrane pemphigoid. Abstract Background Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is a rare autoimmune blistering disease involving mucous membranes with a potentially ...

Could eosinophil chemotactic factor (CCL11) be a useful biomarker of Covid-19?

open access: yesJournal of Surgery and Medicine, 2021
Background/Aim: Differentiating COVID-19 positive patients from negative ones with similar symptoms and predicting the course of disease are major problems in COVID-19. For this purpose, we investigated the performance of Eosinophil Chemotactic Factor (CCL11) in COVID-19 and compared complete blood count parameters and indexes.

Innovations in Obesity Treatment: Beyond Adipose Tissue Dysfunction

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
Obesity drives chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cancer development through adipocyte dysfunction. Addressing this multisystemic disorder requires integrated strategies beyond diet and exercise, such as thermogenesis activation via menthol or capsinoids and appetite control through GLP‐1/GIP agonists and neuromodulation to ...

Inflammation and mechanical force‐induced bone remodeling

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis arises from imbalanced host–microbe interactions, leading to dysbiosis and destructive inflammation. The host's innate and adaptive immune responses produce pro‐inflammatory mediators that stimulate destructive events, which cause loss of alveolar bone and connective tissue attachment.

Pulsed high-dose dexamethasone modulates Th1-/Th2-chemokine imbalance in immune thrombocytopenia

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2016
Background Chemokines and chemokine receptors play important roles in autoimmune diseases; however, their role in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is unclear.

Understanding extracellular vesicles in antiaging

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Aging is a multifactorial process marked by gradual cellular dysregulation, regulated by hallmarks, including genomic instability, mitochondrial dysregulation, and chronic inflammation. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), especially exosomes, have emerged as pivotal mediators of cell‐to‐cell communication with potential roles in both ...
