GABAergic Neuron Activation in the RMTg-VTA Pathway Modulates Dopaminergic Neuron Excitability and Social Stress Susceptibility in Male Mice. [PDF]

In susceptible mice, dopamine neurons in the VTA exhibit increased excitability along with upregulation of GABAA receptors. Administration of the GABAA receptor agonist muscimol reduces this neuronal hyperexcitability and reverses social avoidance behavior.
