CD13 inhibition augments DR4-induced tumor cell death in a p-ERK1/2-independent manner

open access: yesCancer Biology & Medicine, 2021
Objective: Death receptor 4 (DR4; TRAIL-R1) critically mediates extrinsic apoptosis cascades via binding to TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL).

A Retinal Matrix Stiffening Model Reveals FAK‐Dependent Mechanotransduction in Pericytes Underlies Vascular Destabilization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we show that retinal matrix stiffness is increased in diabetic mice. Using engineered human vascular models with controlled matrix stiffness, we demonstrate that stiffening activates focal adhesion kinase (FAK) signaling in pericytes, suppresses Notch signaling, and disrupts vascular morphology.

NGR-peptide-drug conjugates with dual targeting properties. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Peptides containing the asparagine-glycine-arginine (NGR) motif are recognized by CD13/aminopeptidase N (APN) receptor isoforms that are selectively overexpressed in tumor neovasculature.

Decoding Viral Transmission Dynamics in Structured Populations Using a Microfluidic Herd‐Immunity‐on‐a‐Chip Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A microfluidic Herd‐Immunity‐on‐a‐Chip experimentally recreates structured contact networks to quantify viral transmission dynamics. By controlling susceptible, infected, and non‐susceptible populations, the platform reveals how contact topology governs the reproduction number, outbreak propagation, herd‐immunity–like behavior, and intervention ...

A second species of non‐crocodyliform crocodylomorph from the Late Triassic fissure deposits of southwestern UK: Implications for locomotory ecological diversity in Saltoposuchidae

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Late Triassic–Early Jurassic fissures of the Bristol Channel area (southwest England and south Wales) are renowned for their diverse vertebrate faunas. These assemblages have yielded an array of predominantly small‐bodied forms that are crucial to our understanding of the early evolution of several major tetrapod clades.

A practical difference from the normal approach to evaluate natural killer (NK) cells and NK cell neoplasms by flow cytometry

open access: yesCytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Natural killer (NK) cell neoplasms span indolent to highly aggressive entities, and flow cytometric immunophenotyping is central to their detection and classification. However, distinguishing reactive from neoplastic NK cell expansions can be challenging because NK cells lack somatically recombined antigen receptors, and reactive states may ...

Anaplasma phagocytophilum invasin AipA interacts with CD13 to elicit Src kinase signaling that promotes infection

open access: yesmBio
Host-microbe interactions that facilitate entry into mammalian cells are essential for obligate intracellular bacterial survival and pathogenesis.

Old data, new tricks: Comprehensive computational analysis of 10 years of multi‐center EuroFlow acute myeloid leukemia diagnostic immunophenotypic data

open access: yesCytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is characterized by high genotypic and immunophenotypic heterogeneity. We collected an extensive dataset containing 5366 flow cytometry files from 885 AML patients, stained with the EuroFlow acute leukemia orientation tube (ALOT) and AML/MDS panel, acquired in a standardized way at eight centers over a period of 10

CD13 expression affects glioma patient survival and influences key functions of human glioblastoma cell lines in vitro

open access: yesBMC Cancer
CD13 (APN) is an Alanyl-Aminopeptidase with diverse functions. The role of CD13 for gliomas is still unknown. In this study, data of glioma patients obtained by TCGA and CGGA databases were used to evaluate the survival rate and prognostic value of CD13 ...
