The CD4 antigen was first identified by the W3/25 monoclonal antibody (mAb) in the rat and indeed was one of the first lymphocyte cell surface antigens to be defined by monoclonal antibodies in any species (Williams et al. 1977). The W3/25 mAb was of particular interest as it was the first marker for the sub-population of T lymphocytes with “helper ...

The Journal of Immunology, 1994
Abstract Anti-CD4 has been extensively studied in murine models of autoimmunity and transplantation. The timing of anti-CD4 administration in these systems is critical because anti-CD4 effectively blocks primary T-dependent responses but does not diminish ongoing or memory responses in immunized animals.

Evaluation of alternative CD4 technologies for the enumeration of CD4 lymphocytes
Journal of Immunological Methods, 1994Enumeration of CD4+ T cells from persons infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is important. Traditionally this measurement has been calculated by multiplying the percent of lymphocytes that are CD4+ T cells (from flow cytometry) and the number of lymphocytes per microliter of blood (from hematology measures).

CD4-dependent and CD4-independent HIV-2
AIDS, 2003HIV-2 is less pathogenic than HIV-1. In contrast to HIV-1, many isolates of HIV-2, including primary isolates, can infect cells independently of CD4.To compare the sensitivity of CD4-dependent and CD4-independent isolates of HIV-2 to antibody-mediated neutralization. The neutralization sensitivity of CD4-dependent and CD4-independent molecular clones of
