Intracellular Domain Fragment of CD44 Alters CD44 Function in Chondrocytes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2013
The hyaluronan receptor CD44 undergoes sequential proteolytic cleavage at the cell surface. The initial cleavage of the CD44 extracellular domain is followed by a second intramembranous cleavage of the residual CD44 fragment, liberating the C-terminal cytoplasmic tail of CD44. In this study conditions that promote CD44 cleavage resulted in a diminished

CD44 Promotes Migration and Invasion of Docetaxel-Resistant Prostate Cancer Cells Likely via Induction of Hippo-Yap Signaling

open access: yesCells, 2019
Patients receiving docetaxel developed a drug resistance within a few months. We generated docetaxel-resistant PC/DX25 and DU/DX50 CRPC cells from PC-3 and DU-145 PCa cells, respectively. We investigated the mechanism behind why PC/DX25 and DU/DX50 cells

Bimetallic Nanoreactor Activates cGAS‐STING Pathway via mtDNA Release for Cancer Metalloimmunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bimetallic Mn–Ca nanoreactor (MCC) is developed as a non‐nucleotide STING nanoagonist for cancer metalloimmunotherapy. MCC induces Ca2+ overload and hydroxyl radical generation, resulting in mitochondrial damage and mtDNA release. The released mtDNA cooperates with Mn2+ to robustly activate cGAS–STING signaling.

Slug-based epithelial-mesenchymal transition gene signature is associated with prolonged time to recurrence in glioblastoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background We previously identified a precise stage-associated gene expression signature of coordinately expressed genes, including the transcription factor Slug (SNAI2) and other epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers, present in ...

MALT1 proteolytic activity suppresses autoimmunity in a T cell intrinsic manner [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
MALT1 is a central signaling component in innate and adaptive immunity by regulating NF-kappa B and other key signaling pathways in different cell types. Activities of MALT1 are mediated by its scaffold and protease functions.

Binding and Internalization in Receptor‐Targeted Carriers: The Complex Role of CD44 in the Uptake of Hyaluronic Acid‐Based Nanoparticles (siRNA Delivery)

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, 2019
CD44 is an endocytic hyaluronic acid (HA) receptor, and is overexpressed in many carcinomas. This has encouraged the use of HA to design CD44‐targeting carriers. This paper is about dissecting the mechanistic role of CD44.

Interconnected Porous Hydrogels with Tunable Anisotropy Through Aqueous Emulsion Bioprinting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bioprintable microporous bioink is developed using an aqueous two‐phase system (ATPS) composed of extracellular matrix (ECM) mimetic biopolymers. The ATPS bioink enables the fabrication of interconnected porous architectures with up to 70% porosity, supporting long‐term cell viability and 3D cell alignment, enabling a simultaneous generation of ...

Brief report: RRx-001 is a c-Myc inhibitor that targets cancer stem cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The goal of anticancer therapy is to selectively eradicate all malignant cells. Unfortunately for the majority of patients with metastatic disease, this goal is consistently thwarted by the nearly inevitable development of therapeutic resistance; the ...

Laser‐Microscribed Glass Enables Surface‐Microfluidics‐Facilitated, Affordable, Rapid Cancer Diagnosis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A transparent, laser‐microscribed glass platform enables cancer diagnosis within 1 h—much faster than histology, which takes days, and free from the chemical or contrast risks of MRI or CT scans. The antibody‐functionalized rough glass surface captures viable cancer cells directly from suspension, allowing instant optical readout and offering a rapid ...

Assessment of Immuno-histochemical Expression of CD44 in Renal Tumors [PDF]

open access: yesAl-Anbar Medical Journal
Background: Cluster of differentiation 44 (CD44) is the most commonly reported immune marker of the cancer stem cells in renal cell carcinoma. Objectives: To assess the frequency of CD44 expression in renal tumors, to assess the expression of CD44 in ...
